Every time you’re tempted to slack off or do or be a little less than you could, remember that you are a person of integrity who lives by the simple creed: do what you said you would do, when you said you would do it, the way you said you would do it.

Anyway, for the ones who still like to think about humans when designing, I share my thoughts on Substack. Here’s a recent one on what products should remember: pixeldahn.substack.com/p/cac…
Omg yes! Everyone keeps talking about how they’ve stopped using certain tools and outsourced everything to AI agents, as if the goal is to remove yourself from the process entirely. But I feel the exact opposite

“designing much faster than the others” — this so daft and makes it clear they don’t understand design at all. “Designing fast” (or slow) is just not a thing. If you conflate “producing ui by piecing together stuff” and “design” then the former (which is a form of assembly-line practice) can surely be fast or slow. What makes the practice of design challenging is not how to put a ui or poster together, it’s what the pieces are, what the message is, what is being communicated, how it all works together. So many of today’s “design” AI tools focus almost exclusively on the production part, on putting stuff together. I’d love to see an AI design tool that forms a deep understanding of a problem over the course of days or months and works like a creative partner. Call me on my bullshit, thinks about the whole, isn’t concerned really about the final arrangement of elements as much as it would understand the story and the message.

Design has so much influence over different aspects of a product experience. Sometimes, the work itself is how you develop the judgement to make something good

This isn’t about rejecting AI. I don’t think I’ve gone a single workday without using AI tools. But deep thinking still requires slowing down, and nothing beats a canvas, an agent, and occasionally touching grass

Worked on the Litmas 2.0 website with @WeTalkSound. Moodboarded, designed, and built it in pixel art, with a bit of dithering. A few surprises unlock on 1 December. 👀
If you were at LITMAS last year, you already know. 🎄 This year, we’re going bigger. With Café Riddim and House of Assembly joining the mix, LITMAS 2.0 is bringing even more to the table. Sounds of Sunset + House of Assembly on Dec. 23, then Insert Nights on Dec. 24. Get tix here: litmasfest.com

Obsessive public sharing syndrome is what is wrong with social media today. Even grief, intimacy and vulnerability has become opportunities for engagement these days

The anticipation of an audience has begun to influence how people experience their own lives. No ability to distinguish between what should be kept personal versus what is meant for the public anymore

Maybe healthier social technology would recognize that some moments deserve an audience of millions, some deserve five friends, some deserve one person, and others deserve nobody at all 💁🏽‍♂️

There’s something black mirror-ish about this
JUST IN: Palmer Luckey's genetically modified military dog startup, Warhound, comes out of stealth, aiming to create enhanced canines for the U.S. military.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
This is NOT Palmer's company at all, his company Anduril is only supplying the tech for the dogs, and this is a wholly owed Collosal entiity x.com/palmerluckey/s…

Random: @ogbeniseyi’s mind is a whole universe. One of my favorite things about collaborating with him is that he thinks about constraints and consequences of care in design. It’s actually so rare to find a designer with reputation (and autonomy) reduce surface areas to go deeper

Not sure if I can articulate it correctly. It has increased my trust in him simply because I know that I can bring anything to him and he’d immediately think about what it means for the audience/reception of that artifact GOAT 👑

June 2021, was telling a friend about being rejected at Facebook. 5 months later, I got another shot Don’t give up!
Back in 2021 I interviewed at Vercel and I failed badly. I couldn’t implement a debounce function and was stuck for like 30 minutes. It was pretty embarrassing. 10 months later (2022) I interviewed again and got the job. Don’t give up!

Super facts
Is it crazy that I want him to win a Grammy for any visual rap related category at some point? I feel like he genuinely goes above and beyond when it comes to his videos, I don’t know any other rap nigga doin it like him as of recent besides a few honorable mentions.

This DM composer on this app needs another rework, but this time for actual use

I think AI has become quite good at making decks look good, but visual composition is only one part of presentation design. The craft is in information design, storytelling, and art direction
We gave the whole team a Grok Bot that knows our brand. Now anyone can make a great deck in seconds, and I don't have to worry if someone is using the wrong font.

It's also knowing how to structure an argument, knowing what to emphasize, what to leave out, and how to make information meaningful. AI can assist with these decisions, but it doesn't consistently demonstrate the judgment required to make something really tasteful

Same thing applies for vibe coded websites with no art direction from the creator
