For EconTwitter: my better half has a delightful JEP paper on the Bayesian Bootstrap and why you should use it more. It has a surprising number of exclamation points for him, which I guess I should attribute to his more fun coauthors.

From my non-social-media spouse, a new paper, using LLMs to replicate ... everything.

Headlne: "Across 4,452 published replication packages for five economics journals, the workflow flags discrepancies in 3,460 articles or their appendices."
State school testing isn't perfect, but I'd argue it's our best current approach to accountability. Which means parents and policymakers and everyone need to be able to explore it. That's what we are trying to do with the Education Data Center.

It seems like the NY State Department of Ed may just be planning to ignore the (very likely) errors in the 2025 testing. This is bad! There are struggling schools which did not get funding they should have last year because the scores were inflated.

We are taking a closer look at New York's ELA assessment data in grades 3-5- soaring scores in 2025 and then seemingly large losses in 2026. What may have happened? --> statetestscoreresults.substa…

My mentors Isaiah Andrews and Jesse Shapiro have created LLM-advisor versions of themselves (link below)
What's scary is that if the LLMs are half as good as the human versions, they're still probably better advisors than me.
Check them out!

If you're interested in the NY school test scores (who isn't?): in ELA they were way up in 2025 (celebrated!) but then down the same amount in 2026.
Data shows it must have been a 2025 coding error... More here and curious if others have more insight.
