The right to peaceful assembly will always be protected here in Pennsylvania, and so will the freedom to practice your faith freely and without fear or intimidation. Targeting Jewish-owned businesses ahead of the anniversary of Kristallnacht, serves only as intimidation to the Jewish community. Anti-semitism, or any faith-based hate is unacceptable in this Commonwealth. Since our founding, Pennsylvania has been a home to any person seeking religious freedom and that remains true today.

Today, I joined fallen Officer Shane Seiber’s family, his loved ones, his @PhillyPolice brothers and sisters, and the entire City of Philadelphia in honoring his memory and life of service. Officer Seiber was a true public servant, and he was the best of us. He cared deeply about making others’ lives better — and he demonstrated that by choosing to live a life of service. He served two tours in Iraq with the United States Air Force — and even after he returned to civilian life, he continued his commitment to serving others when he decided to become a police officer with the Philadelphia Police Department. As I’ve listened to stories about Shane from some of the officers who served with him, it struck me how his kindness shone through in every memory they shared. To them, he was known as “Colgate” for his big smile that could light up any room. He was a team player — someone who you could always count on to have your back. For 10 years, Shane put on the uniform and the badge every day, kissed his family goodbye, and left home to protect and serve his neighbors. While his life was cut far too short, we all have a collective responsibility to come together and remember his life of service and the ultimate sacrifice he made to keep his community safe. Policing is a noble profession, and those who take on the incredibly difficult task of protecting our communities deserve our profound gratitude and deep respect. Lori and I join this community in praying for Shane’s wife Lisa, their two kids — Finn and Emily — his mother Michelle, his stepfather, Nelson, his brothers John and Max, and his sister Sophia — along with all of Shane’s family and everyone who loved him. May God offer you comfort and strength in this time of mourning, and may Officer Shane Seiber’s memory forever be a blessing.

A Bucks County judge had to step in to stop a smoke shop from selling kratom to minors because Pennsylvania still has no age restrictions on the product. That gap in the law is exactly why @RepAmenBrown's HB 1434 matters. We need to hold retailers who target our kids accountable. phillyvoice.com/bucks-county…

Investing in child care is a net good for parents, early childhood educators, and our children as well. We must work together to create better, affordable child care here in Pennsylvania.
