The American people have had enough. People want a Congress that will listen to them, work for them, and fix their problems, rather than catering to the insane whims of a mad king.
Democrats will answer that call.
My statement on last night's election results:
They say Virginia is for Lovers, which is why I am thrilled that Virginia has enshrined the right to marriage equality in our constitution.
This is a win that will impact Virginians for generations to come!
Trump’s elevation of Stephen Miller to White House Chief of Staff doubles down on the politics of hatred, lawlessness, and failure that the American people soundly rejected three days ago.
Stephen Miller is the architect of Trump’s immigration policies that plunged quiet American communities into violence. At Miller’s direction, peaceful, law-abiding people have been seized from their families and imprisoned or deported for minor civil offenses, and American citizens who protested these actions have been beaten up and even killed by masked paramilitary thugs.
Miller is also the "brains" behind the illegal, extrajudicial murders of people in the Caribbean and the Pacific, many of whom may have done nothing wrong. He frequently promised in 2024 that Trump would focus on the economy and avoid new wars, and then became an ardent defender of Trump’s foolish, unpopular attacks on Iran and other countries.
Stephen Miller embodies the worst elements of the Trump presidency. His promotion shows that Trump has learned nothing from his electoral debacle and has no intention of even trying to work constructively with the next Congress.
Trump and his Republican allies who continue to embrace the politics of hate, division, and chaos are wildly out of step with what the American people want. They will keep suffering more defeats until they listen.

Triumphal Arch — on pause.
Late Thursday night a federal judge HALTED plans for construction to begin.
A federal panel voted in favor of moving forward but a judge stepped in within an hour to stop any plans from advancing.
@RepDonBeyer (D-Arlington) is leading congressional efforts to stop the plan and issued a late night statement.

Good to see Judge Chutkan swiftly bar the Trump Administration from moving forward with its illegal plans to ram this project through.
Her injunction will properly restrain Trump’s rush to ignore and bypass the legal barriers, overwhelming opposition from the people most affected, and glaring evidence of irreparable harm to national treasures like Arlington National Cemetery -- all the things this administration is wrongly ignoring.
But it's important to remember that this fight is not over.
While this decision prevents Donald Trump from immediately implementing his plans to create a monument to his own ego, the courts and Congress must put in place permanent safeguards to stop the Trump Administration from violating the law and proceeding with this project.
I will do everything in my power alongside my colleagues in the Democratic majorities just elected to the next Congress to ensure that this wasteful, disrespectful monstrosity goes nowhere.
BREAKING: Judge Chutkan has blocked construction of Trump's proposed "triumphal arch" for at least 14 days while litigation against it remains pending.

A big thank you to the Cameron Station Civic Association for hosting a thoughtful discussion last night about the upcoming Congressional session.

Americans across the country just elected a Congress that won't be afraid to stand up to Donald Trump.
We won't back down, and we won't let him turn our capital's most hallowed sites into a monument to himself.

Virginia voters: there is still time to vote on Election Day. Polls close at 7:00 p.m., but voters who are in line by that time can vote.

Today, I met Anne, who traveled all the way from Honolulu to speak out against Trump's proposed arch.
She's joining many of us later this week to testify before the National Capital Planning Commission's vote.
People across the country are standing together to stop this, and we will.
As Congress is confronted by complex issues ranging from cybersecurity to AI and more, our bill would restore and update the Congressional Office of Technology Assessment to provide a crucial internal source of expertise and counsel.

Americans are paying more for gas, groceries, and just about everything else but Donald Trump insists that the affordability crisis he created is a hoax.
He’s raking in billions while families struggle to get by. He has no idea what the rest of the country is going through, nor does he care.

Republicans can’t defend their record of cutting health care for millions of Americans, letting children go hungry and starting a war that’s driving up gas costs, so they fall back on their good ole reliable messaging: racism.
