#1 Wicker gets thumbs up from JC-W @Film_Rev_Daily. An indy w. Olivia Colman & Peter Dinklage, it's a medieval Chaucerian fantasy about woman asking basket weaver to make her a man. Earthy and v. witty, it is a genuine original. Less keen on Prime Time, a true tale of a TV show entrapping predators. Poor storytelling & characters - a missed opportunity. He praises French film Love Me Tender, powerful & nuanced drama about woman who discovers herself after separation only to fight a bitter custody battle.

Robots that mine, cut railside trees & do synchronised dancing, discussed by @stevecaplin. Also eyedrops that work in space. A screen woven into a sweater sleeve. Sending smells via the internet. The new Virgin Galactic plane which will take you to the edge of space – for $850,000. A bitcoin miner that heats your water tank as it mines. And an AirTag used to locate a thief stealing valuable stones from old walls.

JC-W @Film_Rev_Daily loved imagery of #4 Wildwood, longest ever stop-motion animated feature. Emotionally dark film, it's full of humour and superb dialogue. It's fun, but nothing that hasn't been seen before. Not so #17 Klara and the Sun, in which an outmoded robot tries to help a family. TV Wednesday's Jenna Ortega is a superb physical comedienne. Maybe it's not like the book but it's poignant, funny and visually wonderful. On Amazon Prime is dreadfully-titled Love of Your Life, produced by Ryan Gosling. Starring Margaret Qualley, it's complex love story w. many gear changes. But nothing is clichéd and it gets under your skin. open.spotify.com/episode/5Vi…
Apple's iPhone Duo problems w. @stevecaplin. Chinese scientists can make salt saltier so we don't need as much. Clips from Elon Musk's Grok-created Odysseus, which he says is better than cinema film. A smart treadmill for those at standing desks. TwinGrip pliers can handle some jobs far better than the old sort. Sony's gold-plated Walkman is expensive but unavailable. There's an e-ink self-charging canvas. And after French supermarket fridge attack, there's something similar targeting US military bases.

JC-W @Film_Rev_Daily was on the edge of his seat survival film #7 Whalefall. The tale of diver swallowed by a whale is a very claustrophobic thriller. James adored Apple TV's true tale of mountaineer Tenzing. This is a terrifying tale of man vs. nature with amazing cinematography. If only the music wasn't so intrusive at times. Ben Affleck's Animals on Netflix is an accomplished thriller, his 6th. It's a polished, multi-layered drama with many surprises.

The world is slowing down, says @stevecaplin, so we'll need a leap hour - in 1,000 years. A space mission to our nearest star will take 80,000 years. A crowd-funded AI screwdriver with 52 bits is too pricy. They're fishing for iPhones in the Strait of Hormuz. Just Eat's AI provided some bizarre images for food offerings. However, AI has cracked Napoleon's code in a letter to his generals in 1809.

'It was very exciting: rather like leaving a Tiger Moth and getting into a jet plane, with a bit of training over the weekend'. Today's changes are less obvious than 'Big Bang' in October 1986, but every bit as substantial.

JCW @Film_Rev_Daily was smitten with #5 The Social Reckoning, w&d by West Wing creator Aaron Sorkin. This true story about Facebook whistleblower is intellectual workout w. great dialogue. A fan of #7 The Uprising, about Peasants' Revolt. D. by Paul Greengrass and w. Andrew Garfield & Stephen Dillane, it is a true medieval-set tale which feels very real & stirs indignation. Unabomber, another Netflix true-crime thriller w. Russell Crowe & Shailene Woodley is an intriguing story but too workmanlike to be gripping.

Apple's Homeview is too dear for what it does, says @stevecaplin. He celebrates Japan's Gboard Day with another wacky keyboard idea. Mayor of Tirana is in prison but still runs the city with an AI avatar of himself. Hackers turned 100s of French internet-connected supermarket fridges to 50°C. Anthropic warns that AI worms could infiltrate smart fridges, TVs & create an unstoppable automomous AI. Neo's new headphones twist to become speakers so others can listen, for a stiff price. Chinese scientists develop microrobots with recharging batteries, but only if walking on certain materials. And there's a crowd-funded computer monitor many might think more threatening than useful.

JC-W @Film_Rev_Daily found #1 Verity ridiculously enjoyable for all the wrong reasons. Yet another Colleen Hoover adaptation w. Anne Hathaway & Dakota Johnson, he laughed at the ridiculous plot. It's a thriller without no credibility and all twists are in trailer. James found #4, Alejandro Inarritu's Digger, brilliant film w. important things to say. Think Dr. Strangelove in age of climate change to get an idea. Stars Tom Cruise but makeup so good you forget it's him. It will polarise audiences though. James wanted to see #35, Her Private Hell, as directed by Drive's Nicolas Winding Refn. But nothing remotely real about ostensible thriller, which is v. violent & constantly shifts tone.

Google Maps will now leading you to the cheapest petrol, says @stevecaplin. Scientists in Korea have developed an AI that monitors brainwaves to know when it's made a boo-boo. Starship Technologies' delivery robots have finished there trial in Sheffield, but haven't emerged unscathed. Barnsley now has a popular 2-legged delivery robot. There's an e-ink Kindle display for your phone back to avoid distracting notifications. IKEA has set up a secondhand marketplace for its used stuff. And Glasow University is sending whisky into space to see if rapid heating & cooling will speed up maturation.

JC-W @Film_Rev_Daily was bored by #3 Heart of the Beast w. Brad Pitt, finding it yet another wilderness movie. However, #4 Sense and Sensibility is a superlative adaptation. With Daisy Edgar-Jones & Esmé Creed-Miles, it excels in every department, part. cinematography, score & screenplay. Admired #13, NT Live showing of The Misanthrope. Also surprised to enjoy Amazon Prime's The Runner, a thriller set in London w. Gal Gadot & Damian Lewis, which is pulse-quickening & relevant.

Meta releases the "world's first personal AI agent", says @stevecaplin, who warns of some downsides. However, AI can now spot diabetes by listening to the voice. Mozart can lower blood pressure. As humans prefer robots with facial expressions, one can now cry. AI has created a Greta Garbo advert for a ball bearing company without using her likeness. There's a collapsible cargo trailer. He's not sure what the "world's first emotion-aware smart pen" does. The Bodleian Library is allowing OpenAI to train ChatGPT on its books. And there's a Chinese car that will give Tesla's S model a run for its money.

JC-W @Film_Rev_Daily loves #3 Shaun the Sheep: The Beast of Mossy Bottom, perhaps funniest of Aardman's Shaun series. #7 is doc. Oasis: Don't Look Back in Anger, most likely to appeal to Oasis fans, familiar with their story. James excited by limited edition, restored, disc of 2000's Sexy Beast, w. Ray Winstone, Ben Kingsley and Ian McShane in one of best British gangster films. With visual authority & amazing perfs, also has best extras in years. The Whisper Man, on Netflix, is conventional, nasty crime thriller with nothing good about it, despite cast inc. Robert de Niro, Michelle Monaghan & Michael Keaton.

Latest research shows that humans have two brains, says @stevecaplin. Stanford scientists have created human-mouse hybrid to study causes of schizophrenia, dementia & like. In Japan, there's ambulance for sick robots. Dyson's new toothbrush comes with built-in camera so you can watch on phone. Steve waxes lyrical about crowd-funded wireless, portable touchscreen monitor. In flood-ridden, you can get giant sheets to seal your car against water. And offensive e-bike riders may find their behaviour has consequences in future.
