TEAMSTERS ACHIEVE WALL-TO-WALL REPRESENTATION AT VISTAR OAKLAND FACILITY
37 warehouse workers at VISTAR, a subsidiary of Performance Food Group (PFG), have voted to join Teamsters Local 853. They join 30 drivers who became Teamsters in 2025, securing wall-to-wall representation. Despite VISTAR spending more than $146,000 on an aggressive union-busting campaign, workers remained united to join North America’s strongest union.
“There was a noticeable difference after the drivers organized,” said Michael Townsend, a warehouse worker at VISTAR and new member of Local 853. “We saw them stand together and fight for a strong first contract. That inspired us to do the same. Now it’s our turn to have a voice on the job and the protections that come with a Teamster contract.”
700 WASTE MANAGEMENT TEAMSTERS WIN NEW CONTRACT IN CALIFORNIA
A group of 700 Waste Management workers in Los Angeles and Orange counties represented by Teamsters Local 396 have ratified a new collective bargaining agreement. This victory comes soon after 1,900 Republic Services Teamsters from Local 396 ratified their own contract.
Waste Management is the largest sanitation corporation in America, raking in $25.2 billion last year. The Teamsters Union represents thousands of Waste Management workers across the country.
“Congratulations to the rank-and-file Teamsters whose engagement and energy were key to securing such a strong contract,” said Victor Mineros, Secretary-Treasurer of Local 396 and Director of the Teamsters Solid Waste and Recycling Division. “But the job’s not done yet. Local 396 is still working tirelessly to secure new agreements for our members at other haulers in the area that are just as strong as this one.”
With nearly one week until Election Day, Teamsters Political Field Organizers are on the ground in several states educating members about what’s on the ballot in their states. Electing pro-worker candidates up and down the ballot is how we continue to build worker power.
Make sure you vote on November 3 for Teamsters-backed candidates 🗳️
Amazon Teamsters, with the support of a supermajority of the New York City Council and Mayor Zohran Mamdani, are on the cusp of making a major, historic breakthrough to hold the $3 trillion corporation accountable by passing the Delivery Protection Act.
Speaker Julie Menin, schedule an immediate vote on the Delivery Protection Act!
Since its reintroduction in April, the Delivery Protection Act has supermajority support in the New York City Council. Mayor Zohran Mamdani has committed to signing this critical legislation once passed. The only thing preventing New York City from making labor history? Council Speaker Julie Menin, who has failed to schedule this landmark bill for a vote.
Speaker Menin, it’s time to choose: Do you stand with every day New Yorkers who support the DPA, or with Amazon and other companies who endanger workers and the communities they deliver to?
Schedule the vote for the Delivery Protection Act and let the people of New York City have their say.
Today, the Teamsters Union is the most influential political force for working people in the United States.
Our political approach is member-focused, independent, and driven by results.
The headlines may focus on the races at the top of the ticket. But for Teamsters, some of the biggest stakes are often found at the bottom of the ballot.
Here are six examples of why the races further down your ballot deserve a closer look: justcauseteamsters.substack.…
Nearly 300 Illinois bus workers at Sunrise Transportation, now a subsidiary of Student Transportation of America, have voted overwhelmingly to join Teamsters Local 777.
These workers include school bus drivers and monitors who organized with the Teamsters to secure fair pay, improved working conditions, and better benefits.
Teamsters General President Sean M. O’Brien and General Secretary-Treasurer Fred Zuckerman spoke this morning alongside Local 120 President Tom Erickson at the local's stewards seminar in Minnesota to recognize their recent victories and celebrate the wins members fought for and won this year. Teamsters Local 120 proudly represents 15,000 members at over 300 employers across Minnesota, Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin.
Speaking to hundreds of Local 120 stewards, O’Brien emphasized the critical role stewards play and praised their solidarity, sacrifice, and leadership. Recently, Local 120 organized 84 drivers at Sysco in Wisconsin and 121 drivers and monitors at First Student in Minnesota. Their members at Sturgis Ambulance in South Dakota ratified a first union contract, while dairy members at DFA's Cass-Clay Creamer in North Dakota secured another strong contract. Local 120 members have also recently won double-digit wage increases at UNFI, Martin Brower, and Sysco in Minnesota.
“Local 120 has taken on major fights over the past year, and stewards have been at the center of every victory,” O’Brien said. “You stood together to win contracts that changed lives, and you brought hundreds of new workers into the Teamsters. Stewards are the backbone of this union — enforcing our contracts, organizing new workers, and refusing to back down from any fight. Because of your work, the Teamsters stand stronger and more militant than it has in decades."
Tonight in St. Paul, Minn., Teamsters General President Sean M. O’Brien spoke with rank-and-file Teamsters and students at Metro State University about the history of the 1.3 million-member union. He was joined by Teamsters General Secretary-Treasurer Fred Zuckerman to discuss the urgency for labor organizations to engage politically and aggressively with both parties to advance the interests of working people.
“An engaged and often angry labor movement is essential for a healthy democracy. But the extent of our engagement cannot be tied solely to the outcome of any election,” O’Brien told the crowd in the university’s Main Hall. “Organized labor has a choice to make. We can directly pursue goals through political engagement that will benefit our members and all working people. Or we can waste time putting our efforts behind candidates and political parties that make promises. We don’t want promises. We demand action. Whether we’re working to pass the Faster Labor Contracts Act in Congress or pressuring city governments to prioritize the Delivery Protection Act nationwide, we must have skin in the game at every level. We must keep working together to build a new coalition of Democrats, Republicans, and independents who are ready to do what needs to be done to improve the lives of working Americans.”
O’Brien was joined at the university by Tom Erickson, President of Teamsters Local 120 and Director of the Teamsters Warehouse Division, and Central Region International Vice President Danny Avelyn of Teamsters Local 554.
Metro State, which is home to hundreds of members of Teamsters Local 320 in Minneapolis, offers a Masters of Advocacy and Political Leadership program where students can emphasize their studies in labor organizing and union advocacy. O’Brien’s speech on labor history, leadership, and politics followed one-on-one discussions with Teamsters who work on campus, faculty who help administer the school’s labor programs, and other students from across the Minneapolis-St. Paul metro area.

Thank you, @NYCMayor, for your support of the Amazon Teamsters movement and for endorsing the Delivery Protection Act to hold companies like Amazon accountable when they break the law.
Every worker deserves dignity and respect on the job, and we are proud to stand together in the fight against the world’s greediest company. It’s long past time to pass the Delivery Protection Act and show companies like Amazon that the days of exploiting workers and endangering our communities are over.
When a worker wears an Amazon vest, drives an Amazon van and delivers on an Amazon-controlled route, but Amazon denies they work for the company — that's exploitation.
When we see that traffic and injury-causing crashes spike on the streets around a warehouse — that's exploitation. And it makes our streets less safe.
We stand with working people, not corporations that profit by denying them their rights. We stand with @Teamsters and for safe streets in New York City.
We will pass the Delivery Protection Act.
When New York City passes the Teamsters-backed Delivery Protection Act, it will kickstart a movement nationwide to finally put an end to Amazon's exploitation and ensure that the workers who make the $3 trillion delivery giant run get the pay and benefits they deserve.

Sean O’Brien spent his morning with Zohran Mamdani and his evening with Mike Lawler.
I asked him why:
Over 1,900 sanitation workers across Southern California represented by Teamsters Local 396 have ratified a new contract with the multibillion-dollar waste hauler Republic Services.
“Rank-and-file Teamsters stood together to take on one of the most irresponsible employers in America and negotiated a contract that sets the standard for the waste industry,” said Teamsters General President Sean M. O’Brien. “This is a great win for these hardworking Teamsters, but we are not done. Hundreds more Republic Teamsters across the country are bargaining new contracts this year. Republic Services, Waste Management, and every other company in this industry is on notice: the Teamsters will never stop fighting for the strongest contracts with the wages, benefits, and protections that our members have earned.”
Meanwhile, more than 1,400 waste workers at other companies represented by Local 396 continue to negotiate new agreements.
“Our members should be very proud of winning such a strong contract,” said Victor Mineros, Secretary-Treasurer of Local 396 and Director of the Teamsters Solid Waste and Recycling Division. “At Local 396, this victory is just the start. We still have plenty of work ahead to bargain strong contracts for the rest of our members in the sanitation industry.”
Teamsters General President Sean M. O’Brien joined hundreds of Teamsters and a coalition of unions rallying in support of Rep. Mike Lawler (R-NY, 17th District) for re-election at Teamsters Local 456's hall in Elmsford, N.Y.
Rep. Lawler has championed key Teamsters legislative priorities, including co-sponsoring the Faster Labor Contracts Act and the Warehouse Worker Protection Act, which earned him the endorsement of the Teamsters in his race for re-election for Congress in New York's 17th district. Lawler has also co-sponsored the Teamsters-backed Public Service Freedom to Negotiate Act, Railway Safety Act, and ROTOR Act.
"The Teamsters stand with Rep. Lawler because he has proven his loyalty to the working men and women of this country time and time again," O'Brien said. "Rep. Lawler has supported Teamsters bills and Teamsters initiatives whenever the ask is made. Our entire union, home to 1.3 million hardworking Americans, could not be prouder to support Mike Lawler for re-election in November."
After rallying for the Delivery Protection Act at City Hall, Teamsters General President Sean M. O’Brien met with rank-and-file members of Local 817 in New York City who work in the film and TV industry.
Local 817 proudly represents thousands of Teamsters who power New York’s film and TV industry and make our most famous movies and shows possible.
“It’s our members who are the foundation of the film and TV industry, especially in New York,” O’Brien said. “Through coordination, solidarity, and strategy, we will reclaim the dignity of our labor, preserve this industry, and ensure studios and streamers are forced to do their part to once again make productions here in America."
TEAMSTERS RALLY FOR DELIVERY PROTECTION ACT AT NEW YORK CITY HALL
Today, Teamsters General President Sean M. O’Brien joined hundreds of rank-and-file Amazon Teamsters and New York City elected officials, including Mayor Zohran Mamdani, for a rally at City Hall urging Council Speaker Julie Menin to schedule an immediate vote on the Delivery Protection Act.
The Delivery Protection Act, authored by Councilmember Tiffany Cabán (D-22nd District), would require delivery companies like Amazon to register their facilities with the city and ban subcontracting for last-mile delivery drivers in the five boroughs. Amazon uses a corrupt subcontracting model in which third-party “Delivery Service Partners” shield the company from legal liability while making billions in profit. The bill is supported by a majority of the City Council and Mayor Mamdani.
“Amazon is America’s most corrupt white-collar crime syndicate, wasting millions to rob warehouse workers of the right to collectively bargain while designing a nationwide subcontracting scheme to deny employment rights to its entire fleet of delivery drivers,” O’Brien said. “New York City is a vital artery of Amazon’s global logistics operations, and it must be the first city to pass the Delivery Protection Act. Amazon’s unchecked exploitation of drivers and parcel delivery workers has got to end. The Teamsters are honored to lead the fight to fix a broken system stacked against working people, and we thank Mayor Mamdani, Councilmember Cabán, and the supermajority of the City Council for standing with workers at this critical moment.”

Teamsters president Sean O’Brien directly calls out @JulieMenin for “promising” to bring @tiffany_caban’s Delivery Protection Act to a vote and now leaving it on the table: “Now it’s time to get off your ass and deliver on those promises.”
Nearly 200 Teamsters at IKEA's distribution center in Joliet, Ill., have won their strike for a first union contract.
Workers at the Joliet facility voted overwhelmingly to join Teamsters Local 179 in March, becoming the third IKEA location to organize with the union in North America.
IKEA Teamsters stood strong on the picket line for months until they won the contract they deserved.
