Consultants don’t want to strike, but after 18 months without formal negotiations, they cannot wait any longer. These strikes are planned to take place on 25 and 26 November, with Christmas Day levels of cover provided. There is still time for the Government to make progress.

Your collective action has secured additional posts across 48 training programmes, plus 32 new academic clinical fellow posts. On top of that last year’s Round 1 competition ratios are down significantly. This is progress, and we’ll keep fighting for even more training posts.

A real terms paycut doesn't show a workforce you value them, it will do nothing to keep doctors in the country and will not help improve experience of patients in the NHS. Emma Runswick, deputy chair of BMA Council, on the Government's proposed 2.4% pay uplift for doctors.

The audacity of a government listing “higher inflation, energy costs and reducing income” as arguments to cut NHS staff pay. NHS staff also face these things, and they’re not in government, they’re not in the unique governmental position to materially influence them, unlike… 🤔
Cutting doctors’ pay won’t keep them in the NHS. The DDRB must show its independence and recommend what patients and the NHS need, not what the Government is prepared to pay. Full statement: bma.org.uk/bma-media-centre/…

Patients need doctors, but if doctors are going to stay working in the NHS, then they need to feel valued. A 2.4% uplift, yet another sub-inflationary pay rise, is not the way to tell a workforce you value them.

Doctors in London have had their cost of living allowance frozen for over 20 years, despite soaring living costs. It's time to act. The indicative ballot opens today. Doctors, vote YES and talk to your colleagues about the campaign. Let's win this together.
Doctors’ London Weighting hasn’t increased in more than 20 years, while rent, travel, childcare and other costs have all soared. London's doctors work with an outdated allowance. @BMALondon
