I could not agree more. It's disheartening and sad. On a personal level, I have spent tens of thousands of hours over the past four decades trying to empower individuals to become effective self-directed investors. I have railed against so-called market gurus and investment advisors, long arguing that individuals should not outsource their hard-earned capital to outside parties. As a DIY advocate, the idea that someone would try to impersonate me in the role of an investment advisor is practically unthinkable considering my public stance on investment advisors. In recent weeks we have become aware of some scammers impersonating me. We have spent countless hours and resources petitioning social media platforms and speaking with law enforcement, but in this age of AI, deepfakes, unpoliced social media and unprecedented frauds, these efforts are at best have whack-a-mole results. In the end, individuals must exercise extreme due diligence when parting with their money with an online entity. Don’t trust. Verify. I, for one, will never manage other people’s money or promote a fee-based trading service.
