Welcome home! 🌎 After 378 days of isolation while living and working like astronauts on simulated Mars mission, the four-member CHAPEA crew exited the habitat on Oct. 31. Their journey brings NASA a step closer to understanding how crews adapt to long-duration stays. The crew was greeted by family, friends, and the NASA teams behind the mission—and got to bask in the Sun for the first time in over a year! Bravo, CHAPEA!

We're bringing the cosmos to the classroom with the help of an Artemis III astronaut! 🧑‍🚀 @NASA astronaut and physician Frank Rubio inspired dozens of schoolchildren in Wales thanks to the coordination of space medicine and orthopedic expert Melanie Coathup and biomedical engineering doctoral candidate Achintya Bairat. Over the last year, Coathup and Bairat have kept in close contact with Ysgol Cemaes, a primary school that Coathup herself had graduated from. The @UCF scientists introduced the students to space research and STEM through a series of video calls, culminating with the most recent call with Rubio. Rubio gave awestruck students a glimpse of life on the ISS, inspiring them to get excited about science and following their dreams and, of course, answering questions about food in space and extraterrestrial life. med.ucf.edu/news/ucf-scienti…

Yesterday was National Mentoring Day, a reminder of the powerful role mentorship plays in the graduate student journey. From navigating academic challenges to building professional networks and gaining hands-on experience, strong mentorship can make a lasting impact long after graduation. Through the College of Graduate Studies' Graduate Enrichment Mentoring Initiative (GEMiNi), graduate students can access mentorship resources and guidance for building meaningful academic and professional connections. Explore mentorship resources through GEMiNi: graduate.ucf.edu/gemini

Wow! My student Noah Brockhoff won another award for his research on how rocket exhaust blows lunar soil. This all started with him approaching me out of the blue with “I really want to get into lunar research”, so I pulled a thread to find him some funding and now he’s here 🫡
What a great night celebrating all of our award winners! 👏 Full list of winners: ucf.edu/news/7-stellar-honor…
