After nearly two years, I am leaving the @StateDept to return to the private sector. It has been the privilege of a lifetime to work for @POTUS Trump and @SecRubio, and I’m eternally grateful for their trust in me to execute their foreign policy vision. President Trump has put decades of post-Cold War malaise behind us—permanently transforming U.S. foreign policy to put Americans first, keep them safe, and drive peace and shared prosperity in key regions. I look forward to supporting the Administration as a private citizen.

One measure of a great UN speech is whether communists try to disrupt it
Based on their so-called “diplomats” melting down at the first hint of criticism in the middle of the UN, imagine what happens to those who speak out under the iron fist of the Cuban regime at home in Havana.

Less macabre, I met this guy strolling Panama City
Sir, this is a national park, not a portal to the underworld. Photo of a bobcat pretending to be a tree demon at Joshua Tree National Park.

Today marks my first visit to Panama — a critical security partner for the United States, and home to one of our star ambassadors, @USAmbassadorPAN. Thank you for the warm welcome! Pictured: Panama Canal ports; “old town” at sunrise; Panama City skyline juxtaposed
¡Bienvenida a Panamá, subsecretaria Rogers!

The conditions allowing for the safe return of Ms. Machado to Venezuela is the direct result of the U.S. supported reconciliation talks which has already seen hundreds of political prisoners freed and hundreds of political opposition figures return from exile. The United States expects the freedoms of all sectors of Venezuelan politics to continue to be respected. Likewise, we expect all political actors to support these talks which represent the best chance Venezuela has had in thirty years to peacefully achieve not just a free and fair election but an enduring democracy.

The World Cup is over, but guests continue to spread the word about American restaurants
Can't lie....@TheCCF is a bloody great restaurant. The only place in the world with about 30, 000 menu items and every one is great. Good choice @SecScottBessent 👌

The Cuban people are the victims of a failed Communist system. U.S. law has always allowed food and medicine exports, resulting in over $810 million in goods sent to Cuba in 2025, while U.S. disaster relief delivers food and hygiene supplies directly to families in need. Stand with the Cuban people, not with the regime.

Stats like these can actually understate disparities, including because: * “Nationality” rather than origin is graphed. Several notorious offenders have been British nationals of foreign origin, including the leader of the Rochedale rape gang. * As noted by Britain’s Casey report, there are underlying reporting gaps. Don’t want to pick on Britain here, because these correlations aren’t unique to UK. Shows why culture + selection effects matter for migration.

Secure, trusted tech stack is a vital policy priority, with good reason:
This is the type of thing that potentially gets new laws passed.

France: Violence and rioting, tied to ongoing protests, have recently occurred in France and may continue. The French government has indicated they will take steps to curb "illegitimate" protests, while those organized by groups such as trade unions would be allowed to proceed. Given the heightened concerns, avoid demonstrations and areas of unrest. Stay away from areas with large crowds or significant police activity. Numerous groups submitted plans for protests on Saturday, October 24. Americans in Paris for the NFL game on Sunday, October 25 should also exercise caution and be aware of their surroundings. While permits may be filed for demonstration routes, last-minute changes can happen and protests can occur outside planned routes. Recent demonstrations were violent and involved heavy property destruction, uncontrolled looting, and attacks on police. Police responded with crowd control methods including tear gas. In Orléans, media report significant marches and protests planned for Saturday, October 24, and Sunday, October 25. Curfews in parts of France, including some neighborhoods in Paris and the vicinity, might continue. Curfew decisions are made locally, can be implemented with short notice, and restrict gatherings and free movement to some public landmarks. More at fr.usembassy.gov/security-al…

Silk Road sites like Samarkand are becoming more familiar to Americans, including as a result of social media. Our Ambassador’s Fund for Cultural Preservation helped restore some tiles the Soviets marred.
Few places on Earth have historically played such an important role in global trade and commerce as Samarkand. It’s an honor to be here today — not just to remember the history, but the opportunities for the future.

SECRETARY RUBIO: I don't think it's a coincidence, to some extent, that pulling foreign aid into the State Department and away from this sort of independent, do-whatever-they-want organization which was USAID has had a direct impact on what's happening in the region.
SECRETARY RUBIO: It is in the national interest of the United States to live in a region in which we have as many not just partners, but allies, who are as stable and secure as possible.

Natalie has been doing great reporting lately on these and adjacent concerns ⬇️
“Biological male.” “Biological female.” “Protect the children.” Those are phrases flagged in hate-speech research funded by the Council of Europe. The published code categorizes biological-sex terms as “structural denial” and protecting children as a “dog whistle.” The project, conducted by trans advocacy group TGEU and the Institute for Journalism and Social Change, examined YouTube comments. The accompanying report calls for stronger media regulation addressing publishers that leave comments classified as hate speech online.
