Michael Jordan won 10 scoring titles, and the strangest thing about the record is how rarely it comes up.
He won seven straight from 1987 to 1993, retired, came back, and won three more from 1996 to 1998. Wilt Chamberlain, the most prolific scorer the game has ever seen, won seven. Nobody else is close to either of them.
The first one might still be the most staggering. In 1986-87, in his third season, Jordan averaged 37.1 points and scored 3,041. Only Chamberlain had ever reached 3,000 in a season, and nobody has done it since. The last one came at 35, when he averaged 28.7 in 1997-98 and won his sixth championship that June.
That's the part people miss. The usual critique of a scoring champion is that big numbers come at the team's expense. Jordan's best scoring years and his best winning years were the same years. Six of his 10 scoring titles came in seasons that ended with a ring. Being the most dangerous scorer in the building wasn't a distraction from winning. It was the method.
He finished with a career regular-season average of 30.1 points, the highest in league history. Think about how many great scorers have come through since 1998, with more pace, more spacing and more threes, and none of them has caught it.
Records like this tend to fade into the background because they feel permanent. I think this is the most unbreakable individual record in basketball. If you have a better candidate, I want to hear it.

Michael Jordan has a 8 year stretch where he never lost 2 games in a row. That is a real stat that matters. Not all this other bullshit that has zero impact on winning. 🤷🏾♂️ #nba

These cats, they fascinate me, how can you weigh over 80kg and your top speed is 70km/h?😭
You can’t outrun them, you can’t overpower them.
Reminds me of my encounter 😂

“My first time toasting an American girl as a Nigerian who travelled abroad was crazy. She followed me to my house with my friends. We offered them drinks, but they brought out their guns and said they could have robbed us because they knew we didn’t have guns, but they were the good ones.”
