WOW: Notre Dame fans are FURIOUS that no penalty flag was thrown on the final play against BYU.
Kirk Herbstreit said on the broadcast that he believed both holding and PI should have been called.
Notre Dame could have had a chance to win the game from the 1-yard line.

There is 1 second on this clock when the ball hits the ground..... can someone explain why the game is over?
Fghting.Irish retweeted
There was actually 1 second left in the ND-BYU game.
Just horrifically officiated all around.

Clear the field
Bring the teams back on the sideline
We still have :01 on the clock for BYU/ND

NOTRE DAME FANS ARE FURIOUS AFTER THIS CONTROVERSIAL NO-CALL AGAINST BYU.
And the replay makes the situation even more interesting.
On the final play of the Notre DameâBYU matchup, a Fighting Irish receiver attempted to make a catch while being closely defended by a BYU player.
But as the football arrived, the defender appeared to make significant contact with the receiver before he could complete the catch.
And somehow, no pass interference penalty was called.
The video shows the two players battling for position as the ball comes down, with the BYU defender making contact while the Notre Dame receiver attempts to secure the pass.
Despite the contact, officials allowed the play to continue without throwing a flag.
The decision immediately raised questions about whether defensive pass interference should have been called.
Under college football rules, defenders are allowed to compete for the football, but they cannot significantly restrict an eligible receiverâs opportunity to make a catch through illegal contact.
The difficult part is determining whether the contact constitutes interference or is simply part of two players competing for the ball.
And thatâs exactly why plays like this generate so much controversy.
For Notre Dame, the stakes couldnât have been higher, with the play coming at the very end of the game.
For BYU, the absence of a penalty meant the defensive play stood.
Itâs the kind of officiating decision that can dominate the conversation long after the final whistle.
One play, no flag, and plenty of controversy.

NEW FOOTAGE SHOWS THAT NOTRE DAME SHOULD HAVE HAD ONE SECOND LEFT ON THE CLOCK AGAINST BYU.
INSTEAD, THE REFS LET THE CLOCK EXPIRE AND ENDED THE GAME.
THEY ALSO APPEARED TO MISS A BLATANT PASS INTERFERENCE PENALTY ON THE SAME PLAY.
Should have been a PI call and there was clearly a second left. We didnât deserve to win, but we also didnât deserve to lose like that. Absolutely brutal.

Disgusting no-call on the last play of the game
First Florida State
Now Notre Dame
These referees canât keep getting away with this
Texas goes on to lose this game, proving that the SEC is just a bunch of mediocre teams beating up on each other. Georgia losing to Auburn, Bama losing to Tennessee. A joke conference!
Turns out Texas is STILL the best team IN THE COUNTRY.

Prediction for tonight
ND 31
BYU 13
I think this BYU offense is bad. And their defense is completely overrated. This is all a prediction and would love to see a closer game.

100%, please, I beg people. Look at Miamis schedule, IUâs schedule, Texas Techs schedule, BYUâs schedule. But only Notre dames schedule gets talked about. What a joke
