From our friend Filippo Ulivieri here’s some new pictures of Kubrick taken in a bar in 1964 by a chilean journalist. I wonder if it’s the same Trader Vic’s (a favourite of his in NY) where he met for the first time Arthur C. Clarke on April 22, 1964.

They are sets, not models - the space station and spaceship models were built at the end of the principal photography, in the summer of 1966.
August 1965: the most meticulously detailed models ever made for film were built at the MGM studios in Borehamwood for #2001ASpaceOdyssey.

The first concept drawing of 2001’s Starchild was done in early 1967 by artist Dorothy Dealtry, mother of make-up maestro Colin Arthur. Later Liz Moore created a clay sculpture based on Keir Dullea’s features, which was the basis for the final fiberglass model.
