When Sir Patrick Stewart was cast as Jean-Luc Picard in 1987, his Royal Shakespeare Company peers warned him that doing American sci-fi television would ruin his classical theater career. He proceeded to spend the next 40 years bringing Shakespearean gravitas to spaceship bridges and mutant academies, single-handedly forcing Hollywood to take pop culture cinema seriously RIP Sir Patrick Stewart 🕊️

It’s really crazy you can read all the economic and political theory books in the world and the biggest takeaway is that Leisure is actually just a policy choice

Not often do you see Americans copying Canadian politics.

deadnaming the public universal friend is crazy
23-year-old Jemima Wilkinson emerges from a stupor caused by Columbus Fever and declares that she has not survived, but that she has been reborn as an arcangel named “Publick Universal Friend.”

RIP to a great actor. Star Trek TNG was an amazing to show to watch between my online classes and it was great escapism to watch during hard times.
Stage giant Patrick Stewart, of ‘Star Trek’ and 'X-Men' fame, dies at 86.

Too bad Netflix removed almost all star trek content. I missed when it was all on the same platform.

Fast fashion and social media have really changed the way people dress. People used to dress far more plainly for these types of events, presumably less conscious of trends
This is what it sounded like to fall in love with EDM 15 years ago. On July 23, 2011 Avicii released “levels” on the main stage of TomorrowLand

I know haha Johnny Test beaverslop or whatever but it is so fucking concerning to me that nobody realizes the Canadian animation industry is a CORPSE. It is DEAD. There are no original Canadian cartoons being made anymore. Canadian studios only exist to make shows for Americans
The upcoming ‘Garfield’ series produced by Nickelodeon Animation Studio for Paramount+ will reportedly move its design work to a Canadian vendor studio. This is a similar move with ‘The Loud House’ where production for its renewed tenth season was also moved to Canada.

This will end up like early decades of CanCon laws. You get a lot of crap produced just to fill legal requirements that people ultimately don't care for it.
Quebec’s new government says it will go around Ottawa and negotiate directly with Netflix and Spotify. The National Post reports Premier @PaulPlamondon wants 30% French content on major U.S. streamers, in the middle of Canada-U.S. trade talks. 🧵👇 (1/6)

Idk why people are losing their shit at Ukraine and Bosnias votes. Cuba voted no on recognizing the Bosnian genocide 2 years ago, and recognized the russian occupied Ukranian regions as part of Russia right at the start of the war. Solidarity goes both ways
NOW: World majority demands an end to the U.S. blockade on Cuba for the 34th time, in annual UN vote. Vote board:

The backlash went both ways in Quebec interestingly. The general feeling seems to be that Carney should have let PSPP speak but also that PSPP was immature to leave an empty chair over this.

This is absurd when even the Quebec seppies wear the poppy. If your reading of "In Flander's field" and the poppy symbolism that grew out of it is about promoting the British empire or ww1 you have shit reading skills.
