This! This!! A million times, this!!!
Introverts aren’t chasing attention or trying to impress anyone. They just want a calm, peaceful life and the space to do their own thing. Not everything meaningful has to be loud

Huge congratulations to Tara Bergin on winning the @ForwardPrizes for Best Single Poem – Written 2026. ‘The Fear’ by Tara Bergin was one of two published in Issue 52, Summer 2025 of @stingingfly magazine. The judges said: ‘what was remarkable about 'The Fear' was its universality: it transmits across the generations and across experience, and that collective fear we all share about its legacy for those that follow. It's a simple poem and yet it does so much. It's not only timely; it's timeless.’ Tara says: ‘Many years ago I devised a poetry writing class called ‘Fear Poetry’. I got so interested in the whole idea I had to try it myself.’

UCC. Tomorrow I'll be in UCC talking to Department of English, MA students. Engaging with students absolutely expands my mind. Thanks Keri Andrews & Kerri Dillon. Always a delight. And really, just to wander from the college gates through campus of UCC would do your heart good.

I love the World Chess Hall of Fame and Museum! ♟️❤️ Every time I’m in town, I make a point of stopping by for a visit. Each visit brings a new experience, with something different and exciting to discover. It’s always a pleasure to explore, learn, and celebrate the rich history of our beloved game of chess! @WorldChessHOF @STLChessClub @FIDE_chess – at St Louis, MO

the incompetent are blessed with absolute, blinding certainty. … the loudest person in the room gets promoted, gets funded, and gets the microphone
This paper answers why confident idiots run the world. Cornell University published a psychological paper that explains every terrible boss, every loud influencer, and every broken corporate hierarchy. It’s called “Unskilled and Unaware of It.” they tested participants across logic, grammar, and humor to measure the gap between actual performance and self-perception. And the results are wild. participants scoring in the bottom 12th percentile consistently believed they were operating in the 62nd percentile. they were not lying. they were literally incapable of recognizing their own incompetence. the paper revealed a brutal paradox: the exact skills required to master a domain are the exact same skills required to accurately evaluate your own competence in that domain. if you lack the skill, you inherently lack the cognitive capacity to realize you are failing. this creates a dangerous systemic loop. the incompetent are blessed with absolute, blinding certainty. their brain protects them from their own ignorance, allowing them to speak first, demand authority, and never second-guess their decisions. meanwhile, the actual experts suffer the exact inverse. top performers in the study consistently underestimated their rank. because a task was easy for them, they falsely assumed it was easy for everyone else. they hesitate. they obsess over nuance. they assume they have nothing unique to add. we are biologically wired to confuse confidence with competence. the loudest person in the room gets promoted, gets funded, and gets the microphone, not because they know what they are doing, but because they are physically incapable of seeing what they don't. the only defense mechanism is building systems that stop rewarding absolute certainty and start demanding proof of work.

The enshittification the cinema experience, for the viewer and employee - order evening via clunky apps, queue anyway and in mayhem - I love movies in the cinema but the increasing stress of everything before the seat is no longer bearable
