TENACITY is the ability to remain firmly committed to your purpose while remaining flexible in your approach. STUBBORNNESS is the tendency to remain firmly committed to your approach, regardless of its effectiveness. The difference is mindset. Tenacity reflects a growth mindset. It embraces feedback, learns from failure, and adapts without abandoning its purpose. Stubbornness reflects a fixed mindset. It resists feedback, defends existing assumptions, and confuses changing course with giving up. Tenacity requires the courage to persevere and the humility to adapt.

Are your coaching methods developing great people—or just better performers? The behaviors coaches reward and tolerate shape more than results. They shape the kind of athletes a program produces. Coaches need to think carefully about both. #Coaching #AthleteDevelopment #SportsCulture

Thankful for this ongoing conversation with @ICP_Project!
Can the pursuit of winning come at the expense of an athlete’s character? Sports can develop character. They can also expose what a culture truly values. The question is what coaches choose to reward. New conversation from Beyond Coaching. Listen: podcasts.apple.com/us/podcas… #Coaching #AthleteDevelopment

It’s been a great few weeks getting out on the road and sharing #3DCoaching with some incredible people. A couple weeks ago, I had the opportunity to talk about redefining workforce development in Joplin at the #ForwardTogether Conference. Then it was off to New Jersey to spend some time with coaches and athletic leaders at Rutgers-Newark. Today, I had the opportunity to share with about 500 coaches and educators at the #OAHPERD Conference in Edmond, Oklahoma. Whether it’s Business, Education or Sport, it’s the same core idea: Develop people. Build teams. Architect culture. Now I’m headed home where this week we launch another 9-week cohort of 3D Master Class in St. Joseph, bringing leaders from across our community together to grow personally, strengthen their teams, and intentionally shape the cultures they lead. And it’s still not too late to jump in. Details: thejosephcompany.com/3d-mast… #3DCoaching #CityofCoaches #LeadershipDevelopment

On October 1, 2014, the 3D Institute was born. Twelve years later, we’ve trained thousands of coaches in more than 60 countries, helping them establish foundation of purpose and architect a life-giving culture using the 3D Framework. Bryston Williams was part of our very first class. Ten years later, we pulled out the purpose statement he wrote during that experience. His reaction: “This 3D Journey, it changed my whole life.” Next week, the journey continues as we launch another 3D Master Class, much like the one Bryston stepped into in year one. A coach’s job is bigger than X’s and O’s. In Episode 3 of The @3DCoaches Journey, @WesleyCSimmons and I unpack the original definition of a coach: someone who takes a person of importance from where they are to where they want or need to go. We talk psychological safety, relationships, purpose, identity, and what administrators should actually look for when evaluating a coaching culture. What does your program provide—protection from the storm, or is it the storm? Understanding is the basis for care. When leaders understand how their influence contributes to the vibe of a culture, they can be more intentional about the energy they bring into the room. If you want to help the leaders in your organization understand their influence and make the right energy deposits into your culture, book a meeting with Wes Simmons here: 3dinstitute.com/schedule-app… #Leadership #Culture #3DCoaching

If we want an accurate pulse on the culture we are leading, we have to find ways to “talk to the players.” But merely asking for feedback isn’t enough. People must feel safe enough to speak the truth and trust that their honesty will not be used against them. Great leaders don’t just communicate the culture they are trying to create. They listen carefully to understand how that culture is actually being experienced. “Talk to the players.” #3DCoaching #Culture #Leadership

When Valorie Kondos Field (@OfficialMissVal) was named head coach of @uclagymnastics at just 29 years old, she laughed. “I don’t know the first thing about gymnastics.” The response she received was simple: “I trust you’ll figure it out.” And she did. But not by pretending to be someone she wasn’t. Miss Val had to discover the unique gift she brought to leadership. Once she did, it helped unlock one of the greatest coaching careers in college sports history, including 7 National Championships. These are the types of stories we'll hear at the 2027 3D Culture Summit in the #CityofCoaches. Come learn from legendary coaches and leaders whose messages will inspire you, challenge you, and help your team leave with a clear plan for building culture on purpose. Bring your Dream. Bring your Team. Leave with a Plan. Details here: thejosephcompany.com/3d-cult… #3DCoaching

You don't build a great team simply by finding great people. You build it by giving those people a shared purpose. The 3D Institute and Wes Simmons teach this as well as anyone in the country. When people understand why they're together and what they're working toward, the team becomes something more than a collection of individuals. Build the team around purpose. What happens when you stop leaving culture to chance? In Episode 2 of our 3D Journey, @WesleyCSimmons and I unpack why frameworks matter when building culture — and break down the three dimensions of coaching: competence, mindset, and identity. Your culture won’t build itself. If you want a strong culture, you have to intentionally build shared identity and shared purpose. People need to know who we are, what we value, and why we’re doing this together. That’s where culture starts. This week's Beyond Coaching episode with @WesleyCSimmons released tomorrow on Substack, Spotify, and Apple. It is Part 2 of our @3DCoaches Journey Series. impactfulcoachingproject.sub… beyondcoaching.alitu.com #Leadership #Coaching #Culture #TeamCulture #ImpactfulCoaching
