Worlds wrap up post!
Was a great run, wish it could’ve gone a bit farther but really proud of how I played and the team. Turns out the top placing NA player doesn’t have to come from t75 🇺🇸 here is my run! Was a pleasure playing so many talented players.
Please give a GIANT thank you to the Pokemon Showdown staff who went out of their way to address the bot crisis. They spend so, so much more time than you can fathom to make the site as accessible and usable as possible, and receive no compensation for it.
Never wrong, just early 🤔 always had insane potential and glad to see people smarter than me were able to optimize it! Really cool to see both raichu thrive in this meta

Lastly i think raichu X has pretty insane potential. Unopposed elec terrain and more supportive set. I can definitely see it doing well in a meta w only one real ground type. Would be the mega I can most see flying under the radar then making a deep worlds run.

Here it is! My first ever team report is out, hope you all enjoy listening to me ramble on about this team:

We all make fun of pokemon players hygeine, but traveling across the country infested with bed bugs, and spreading it to the airport, plane, hotel, then the venue is one of the most selfish and disgusting things I’ve ever seen.

So much of this vgc bot discourse comes down to why. Why did we need vgc bot gambling? Who wanted/needed this. This is the worst application of this tech, and I’m continually disappointed by the developers. Actual waste of energy and time.

Saw this passed around a bit, as a chess nerd as well few quick thoughts.
Chess has evolved to detect cheaters quite well. They can tell if you go out of your browser too long/consistently, or compare it vs the standard bot. Chess has an objective best move after 5-6 turns.

focus should be on regulating it. Which I've heard might be tougher than other games, like Chess for example. But Chess did experience this back in the 90s, and they're still thriving. I guess there's some good to it, it can be used as a teaching tool for sure. But (2/X)
Friendly reminder that generative AI just steals from existing work, as it can’t not create its own original content, harms the environment, and using it consistently literally makes you dumber.
AI can have many uses when used properly, but not here.

Traveling to Italy and not understanding much of the language is definitely challenging. Thankfully, years of pokemon showdown prepared me for this moment. When I heard someone yell “Porco Dio!!” In public, I immediately knew that means he got rock slide flinched.
Getting spam pinged by past raichu Y tweets so I’ll just address it with the one tweet. I was wrong, it happens 🤷
There’s no shame in making predictions, then things turn out differently. That’s life. Gonna go back to mine eating my weight in pasta in Italy 🇮🇹
