I have a poem very near and dear to my heart up at @45thParallelMag today from my manuscript "Patrizate". This poem owes a debt to Leila Chatti's "Fasting in Tunis" and uses part of the first stanza as its formal constraint. All thanks to the editors for including me!!

Some people have asked to peep my door of blank pages. If a poem is published, I tape up a sheet. If I don’t win something, another sheet goes up. This is my ritual to ward off entitlement, to remind myself the writing is what matters most.

it means so much to share this essay on what is often said to children about the causes of racial violence. and to articulate, in writing, my own struggle to carry woe and wonder simultaneously. theparisreview.org/blog/2020…

Being #BlackintheIvory is being required to do unpaid labor: getting colleagues to recognize their anti-blackness, doing the diversity work bc your program won’t hire diverse faculty, mentoring other POC students. Meanwhile your white colleagues get to just focus on their science

I wrote an essay for ⁦@GQMagazine⁩: “Sometimes, I can’t help but feel that our grief is all this country will let us own. And though I’d very much like to pass onto you something other than this ghostly pain, America, it’s all you deserve.” gq.com/story/saeed-jones-on-…
