On 20.4.2022 I had the honour of speaking to PM @ImranKhanPTI. My kids were so happy that I got to speak to the Skipper. They also said, “Mum, you made him smile”. In the video you’ll hear why I follow and will always follow Khan Sb. #BehindYouSkipper

Completely disagree! It is neither ‘snobbery’ nor ‘policing’ to teach pupils standard English and grammar. We cannot be uncomfortable or squeamish about teaching children that, when discussing academic subjects, we use a consistent, shared grammar. It’s our duty.
As the national policy shifts towards "oracy", this video illustrates the massive problems we will have. It's almost impossible to correct regional dialect things like "we was" into standard English without appearing to be a massive snob. It's also *categorically impossible* to do it consistently. For example, in this video, I think Amy speaks clearly and persuasively. However, she uses the word "like" a lot, and says "you know" and "um" very often. I personally do not care. I do the same. I am horrified when I read transcripts from the podcast or videos I've produced. But, critically, I think that's a *normal way to talk*. It's natural, and most people neither notice it nor care. But if you tell me I now need to *assess* someone's spoken language, I *have* to start thinking about things like that, and policing the way people speak and turning into something which feels unnatural, forced and desiccated. Hurdles ahead!

Great thread. Suspensions are a sad reality of choosing to turn schools around. Without them, we are robbed of our ability to fix the schools that nobody else would touch. Also note that the pearl clutchers would never dream of actually doing this work themselves, or criticising the previous status quo. Far easier to virtue signal and harangue those doing the actual work.
I am currently getting some comments about the high number of suspensions at my school. Whilst I am not responsible for them, I, and a lot of our teachers, support them. Our school is very different to what it was when I first joined, and suspensions have helped. 🧵/

It's entirely clear that the minister and his dept. are willing and able to engage in robust discussion around the curriculum. DE has met every challenge put to them by the critics. I am proud to stand in favour of these reforms. Why? Because they will improve children's lives.
Education Minister Paul Givan has published a Written Ministerial Statement setting out the Department’s position on recent criticisms of Curriculum 2028 and outlining the evidence underpinning the proposed reforms. 🔗Read the full statement here: education-ni.gov.uk/publicat…

This video is doing the rounds again because a critic has questioned whether the pupils here are really learning anything. The quality of this class’s questions can reveal a lot here. So, strap in for a thread! 🧵 1/9
Direct instruction is joyful & leads pupils to success. Here is a *clip* where I use high frequency & high participation questioning in 3 phases: 1. Check for listening 2. Rehearsal 3. Check for understanding Established routines: all hands up, turn & talk, SLANT & ruler reading

Since becoming the Duke of Cornwall upon the death of Queen Elizabeth II in september 2022, Prince William, as New Duke of Cornwall, established the new strategy for the Duchy of Cornwall, summed up by chief executive Will Bax: "The organisation should not simply exist to own land, but should use the land to deliver a positive impact"🔥 Therefore, in May 2026, The Duchy of Cornwall announced that under this new strategy, the Duchy would be selling roughly 20% of its property portfolio over the next 10 years with the aim to raise about £500 million👌🏽 That money under British Law, can NEVER be pocketed personally by the Duke of Cornwall since the duchy does not belong to him. The ENTIRE AMOUNT HAS to be reinvested back into the duchy. Rather, William as Duke of Cornwall decides HOW the money will be reinvested on the duchy and here is how he has allocated that money so far: • Out of the £500 million that will potentially be raised, £161 million will go toward his plans of social housing under his Homeward project to tackle homelessness. Under the plans of construction that have been approved on the duchy by the council, this will result in 12,000 affordable extra homes by 2040👌🏽 • £123m will be dedicated toward work places, the creation of more rural jobs and support for renewable energy. That includes an expansion of solar panels on rooftops in the south west of England, with the aim of generating enough power for 40,000 homes. • £20m will go toward environmental schemes and reducing emissions, including the restoration of peatlands and biodiversity on the Duchy of Cornwall. To accomplish this ambitious vision, the Duchy is consolidating its remaining holdings around five geographic heartlands: Cornwall, the Isles of Scilly, Dartmoor, the Bath area, and Kennington in south London. Bradninch Estate (Devon) is the estate that will be sold. This sale impact 10 tenants- farming families. And the article from the Observer making rounds, is written around these 10 tenants and that sale👌🏽 So, first of all, let's establish some legal concepts and common sense rules in property law to better appreciate how nonsensical the article is: • You can live somewhere for generations but unless you OWN the land on which you live, the landlord still has OWNERSHIP. Therefore, the Landlord has the right to sell HIS land if he so choose; therefore Prince William is within his rights to sell the land in Devon🔥 • Every new Duke of Cornwall comes with his own vision and his own plans for the duchy. The role of the Duke of Cornwall is not just to sit there and collect millions, he has to create new strategies and ways to generate money for the duchy and make it more self sufficient. No one is obligated to follow the plans or the vision of the prior Duke; therefore Prince William is Within his rights to have a new strategy and vision for the Duchy🔥 • Under Section 8 of the Renters rights acts framework in England, eviction notices that the landlord must serve to his tenants depend on the specific reasons cited by the landlord. In case the landlord and his family are moving into the property, selling the property, or in case of mortgage repossession, the Landlord owes the tenants 4 MONTHS NOTICE by law; Prince William gave the 10 tenants 6 MONTHS NOTICE, therefore William is within his rights🔥 It is because William did everything according to the Law, and that the press and critics CANNOT attack him on legality, William FOLLOWS the law. That is why they are manufacturing this fake outrage to attempts to paint him as "heartless", and "pull at heartstrings" when in all actuality, William is using the most human approach possible. Taking into consideration the fact that these families have worked and lived there for generations, • Prince William is offering them First Refusal options, meaning that instead of selling the properties to companies, Existing tenants have been given the initial opportunity to buy their homes or farms and own it as theirs, at discounts reflecting their length of tenure and investment👌🏽 He DOES NOT HAVE TO DO THAT. He can simply sell the land to a company, just like his father did as DOC, get the profit and move on. But William has chosen to take the "feelings" of his tenants into consideration, giving them more time than the legal time allocated, and he is also helping and supporting them along the way. • Indeesd the duchy reported that curently 9 out of the 10 farming tenants are exploring the purchase of some or all of their holdings already👌🏽 • The Duchy is also contributing towards legal and professional costs and considering how tenants' improvements affect valuations. Again, William DOES NOT HAVE to help with legal and professional costs. No landlord has to and most landlord do not do that for their tenants🤷🏽‍♀️ This is the Factual context that the press will not report on, since their goal is to twist reporting to vilify William. They always have to misrepresent stories with William because when FACTS are reported, William always come out shining as a decent human being, and that is why they can never tarnish him👑 1/2

My mum taught English in an east end comp back in the 70s when she first arrived in the UK. Her head of department told that correcting kids using the F word in their writing was imposing middle class bourgeois values onto them and stifling their self expression. Similar vibes.
A pupil says “we was” instead of “we were” - Do you correct them? 🗣️ And what message does that send if it’s how their family speaks? Amy Gaunt argues that teaching Standard English matters but so does how we teach it. Can we help pupils adapt their language for different situations without telling them their home dialect is wrong? Do you agree with Amy? Where would you draw the line? 👇 From our discussion on Creating an Oracy Curriculum, in partnership with Hachette Learning. #Oracy #Teaching #teacherlife #teachertok #teachersoftiktok

Sold a Story 2 Episode 3. Astonishing. DI was the clear and outright 'winner' of Project FollowThrough, yet the federal government in America failed to promote it as it claimed it needed more than one 'winner'. Instead it threw funding at the less successful methods.

This is the other side of one school’s high number of suspensions story. The motivation here is so clearly to provide better outcomes for kids who have been failed.

He looked calm until he said the parents are the ones slowly dying. Graham was going on about the hospital visits, how much the kids love Captain Jack, all the pictures. Depp sat there, then flipped it. He said the visits aren’t a gift he gives them. They’re the gift. He started talking about Great Ormond Street, how he’d already been there as a parent when his daughter was ill. Called it the darkest time of his life, right around Sweeney Todd. Then he drew the line: the kids are strong. It’s the parents you watch break. He paused after that, like he didn’t mean to say it out loud, before adding that bringing even a small smile is everything now. Most celebrities treat those visits like nice press. He talked about them like the only part of the character that still feels real.

HRH the Prince of Wales has led the tributes to Sir Kevin Sinfield, who raised more than £13m to support motor neurone disease charities in memory of his friend and Rhinos teammate Rob Burrow, who died in 2024, today playing on BBC one. In his moving tribute, Prince William said: "What I see the most is his ability to bring people together and be that glue. I liken it to the fabric of communities, and what Kevin does is he can bind and glue communities together by being that leader."🥹 "So, he takes a lot of responsibility on him. He takes other people’s worries, concerns, anxieties, and he owns it, and he carries it, and that’s a weight for him, but he would be the last person to tell you that’s a problem. He would see it as a privilege, and he’ll carry communities and make sure people are as happy as they can be. And the more Kevs we have in this country the better.”❤️ What a heartflet tribute.Thank you Sir Kevin, Indeed. #PrinceofWales 📹BBC &Tokkiannami
