On this day in 1979, angler Ken Fraser made sportfishing history when he landed a 1,496-pound (678.56-kg) Atlantic bluefin tuna off Aulds Cove, Nova Scotia. The incredible catch, made on a rigged mackerel after a battle just shy of an hour, still stands as the IGFA All-Tackle World Record for the species and the heaviest tuna ever recorded.
Sadly, Ken Fraser passed away last year, just before the 46th anniversary of his remarkable catch. Today, a beautiful replica mount of the incredible tuna, built by @KingFishMounts, currently resides at Johnny Morris' @WOWaquarium, where it now stands beside the IGFA Fishing Hall of Fame. Each year over a million visitors each year pass this jaw-dropping display, ensuring that the memory of Ken and this amazing catch live on.
