Telangana achieved the highest economic growth in India from 2014 to 2023 because the BRS government took great care to address water and power shortages. However, Telangana is now back to square one, facing water and power shortages under the Congress government.
1/5: Hyderabad is facing an acute drinking water shortage. More than 330 of Telangana’s 600-plus mandals are drought-hit; only around 500 of its 6,000-plus lakes have water.
2/5: Tanker bookings in Hyderabad have surged to between 6,000 & 8,000 a day. In several areas on the city’s outskirts, drinking water is being supplied once every 3-4 days.
3/5: In a first-of-its-kind initiative for Hyderabad, the water board will launch green tanker services from 1 Nov to promote reuse of treated wastewater for non-drinking purposes.
4/5: State govt has announced fines for misuse of drinking water. First-time offenders will face fine of Rs 1,000; overflowing overhead tanks to attract penalty too.
5/5 What has caused the water crisis in Hyderabad & how did it get so bad? How are residents doing their bit to save water?
