New Poll Lists Gavin Newsom 48/50 Governors in USA Governor Gavin Newsom, who is finally terming out after 8 long years, was ranked 48th overall out of 50 governors in the Cato Institute’s 2026 Fiscal Policy Report Card on America’s Governors. The study cited California’s high taxes, recent tax hikes, and state spending levels as the primary reasons for the low ranking. This follows another separate Citrin-POLITICO poll where 62% of California voters rated Newsom’s overall tenure as “fair” or “poor.” His biggest criticism has been his mismanagement of housing, taxes, and homelessness, which wasted billions of dollars with no measureable results. The libertarian Cato Institute gave Newsom an“F” grade, placing him near the absolute bottom alongside New York Governor Kathy Hochul and Hawaii Governor Josh Green. He came in 48 out of 50. Do you agree with the results of these polls?

Drinking and driving is never worth the risk. Per CHP: This collision is a sobering reminder of just how quickly a bad decision can have serious consequences. Fortunately, this incident ended with no injuries and only property damage—but it could have ended very differently. If you plan to drink, plan ahead. Designate a sober driver, use a rideshare service, or arrange another safe way home. A few extra minutes of planning could save a life. The CHP North Sacramento Area reminds everyone: drive sober, stay alert, and help keep our roads safe. There is never an excuse to drive impaired.

State Workers Strike Demanding 20% Raises to Work From Home The SEIU 1000 Union hosted a strike in Sacramento and other cities on Wednesday 10/21 to demand even more pay, cheaper healthcare, and “telework policies” aka working from home. SEIU called the strike “historic” but, it only lasted one day. The union represents around 100,000 state workers in 140 state departments and agencies. Critics say SEIU, which includes locals such as SEIU-UHW and SEIU 1021, is one of the most corrupt forces in California, and part of what’s holding the state back. Critics’ reasoning for this is the fact that SEIU is behind most of not every single elected official running the State Capitol in Sacramento and all state agencies. They fund them both financially as well as with foot soldiers to run campaigns to get them elected and stay in office. They haven’t cared when billions were wasted on a high speed train to nowhere or disappeared “fighting homelessness.” The only time they seem to care is when they don’t get their pay. Advocates for the union point out of that may be exactly why they expect their raises and posh benefits because if it weren’t for them none of those corrupt politicians would be in their pockets…we mean positions . CalHR released the following statement about the strike: “CalHR remains focused on achieving a fair and responsible agreement with SEIU Local 1000 and continues to be available at the bargaining table. The department also continues to coordinate with the union and state departments to ensure all necessary preparations are in place. Additionally, departments maintain regularly updated contingency plans that can be activated as needed to address any potential disruptions in government operations. As part of these preparedness efforts, CalHR continues to provide guidance, training, and support to state departments.” SEIU leadership (which has had its issues with documented corruption over the years)isn’t buying it. They want their tax payers funded 20% raise to “keep up with inflation” and to be able to stay home for work even though COVID-19 shutdowns ended years ago. What do you think, should they get a 20% raise to work from home?

From a Buddhist Temple Ring to Sacramento’s Muay Thai Legacy Master Andy K’s remarkable journey from childhood poverty in Thailand to teaching the Art of Eight Limbs Andy Khensamphaph was just seven years old when his uncle asked him a question that would shape the rest of his life. “Do you want to learn how to fight?” Andy answered with a question of his own. “For what?” “To eat.” His uncle, his father’s brother, was a professional fighter in Thailand. Born in Laos to a Thai father and Laotian mother, Andy spent most of his childhood in Thailand, where Muay Thai became part of his life at an early age. And he did not just train. As a child, Andy fought for money in a ring inside a Buddhist temple. “I won most of my fights,” he said matter-of-factly. Life outside the ring was harder. Andy grew up poor. In Thailand, there were times when he had no shoes and no money for the bus. In 1980, with assistance from the Mormon church, Andy arrived in the United States as a teenager. He had no family with him and spoke no English. His first job was cleaning toilets. “I took my work seriously and learned to do it very well,” he said. He kept working, eventually attending Heald College, studying electrical work and becoming an electrical journeyman. Muay Thai remained part of his life throughout. Over time, Andy became one of the early figures in Sacramento’s Muay Thai community, opening what he describes as the city’s first Muay Thai school. His experience also took him into Sacramento’s professional fight scene, including work as a trainer and cornerman for Sacramento MMA legend Urijah Faber. Today, Master Andy K’s focus is on teaching. “I don’t talk a lot. I prove it,” Andy said. “A lot of people talk so good, but they are not.” Then he added a question that seems to capture his personality. “Why lie?” “I’m good at troubleshooting,” Andy said. Troubleshooting was part of his work as an electrician. It also describes the way he approaches teaching Muay Thai. No two students move exactly alike. What comes naturally to one may be difficult for another, and Andy adjusts his teaching to the person in front of him. “I’m hands on,” he said. “YouTube is different than in person.” A video can show you how to throw a kick. Andy can tell you why yours is not working. But teaching proper technique is only part of what Andy wants his students to learn. His philosophy extends beyond martial arts. “Stay away from drugs. Stay away from violence on the streets. Become good people. Work. Support family.” He brought that same philosophy into his own home, teaching his children martial arts. Two went on to become heart surgeons after studying at Stanford University. His youngest daughter is six, and Andy is just as proud to tell you she is the best speller in her class. “I came from a very poor family. I suffered a lot,” Andy said. “I believe in what I do is for good.” Today, at 64, Master Andy K can be found teaching at Legacy Muay Thai and Fitness in Sacramento three days a week, passing on the martial art he first learned as a child in Thailand. For information about classes at Legacy Muay Thai and Fitness, call 916-594-7571. Coming Soon: Meet Legacy coach Rocci Twitchell, whose journey from a bullied child to championship boxer and Jeet Kune Do instructor spans more than four decades.

MISSING PERSON / HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION RESULTS IN ARREST OF HUSBAND Per Sac Sheriff: Jasmine Gill was last seen at her Sacramento residence on September 30, 2026. On October 4, 2026, her cousin reported Jasmine missing. During the initial investigation, Jasmine’s husband, Gurinder Gill, claimed that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents had taken Jasmine into custody while she was checking the mail at their residence. Detectives contacted ICE, which confirmed that no enforcement activity had occurred at the residence. As the investigation progressed, Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office detectives identified several inconsistencies in Gurinder’s statements about his wife’s disappearance. Detectives learned that Jasmine and Gurinder were engaged in an ongoing divorce and child custody dispute. On October 1, 2026, burned human remains were discovered in El Dorado County. It was later confirmed that the remains were those of Jasmine Gill. Based on their investigation, Homicide Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Gurinder for murder. On Wednesday, October 14, 2026, detectives located and arrested Gurinder. Detectives also executed search warrants at two residences associated with him. Gurinder was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on murder charges and is ineligible for bail.

FAIR OAKS MUSIC TEACHER ARRESTED FOR CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE MATERIAL Detectives with the Sacramento Valley Hi-Tech Crimes Task Force conducted an investigation into an individual suspected of downloading Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM). During the investigation, detectives identified the suspect as 43-year-old Jiamo Chen of Fair Oaks. Detectives learned Chen operates a home music studio where he provides music lessons to students, many of whom are children, including some as young as four years old. On September 30, 2026, detectives served a search warrant at Chen’s residence. During the search, detectives located evidence of Child Sexual Abuse Material. Chen was arrested and booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail for possession of Child Sexual Abuse Material. At this time, detectives have not uncovered evidence indicating Chen had inappropriate physical contact with a child. However, based on the totality of the investigation and Chen’s access to children through his music instruction, detectives want to ensure no additional incidents have gone unreported. Detectives are not currently aware of any previous reports or concerns involving Chen. Investigators believe Chen has taught music in the Sacramento area for about ten years. Parents or guardians whose children have received music lessons from Chen are encouraged to speak with their children about their interactions with him. Anyone who becomes aware of concerning or potentially criminal conduct is asked to contact the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office or their local law enforcement agency.
