We have sent a second formal complaint to Georgetown University regarding its 2026 Iran lecture series.
Our concern remains simple: Georgetown has assembled four speakers whose policy perspectives substantially overlap and who, to varying degrees, have connections to the same NIAC-centered policy network. Georgetown’s own program confirms that the series is presenting these speakers as authorities on Iran’s political system, nuclear program, grand strategy and U.S.-Iran relations.
Our second letter raises additional questions about Trita Parsi and Sina Azodi, including how Iranian state television has discussed Parsi and NIAC, and the sources and assumptions underlying Azodi’s interpretation of Iran’s nuclear ambitions.
We are not asking Georgetown to silence anyone. We are asking why a university that trains future diplomats and policymakers is not placing these arguments alongside serious competing perspectives from Iranian dissidents, victims’ families, human-rights advocates and scholars who interpret the Islamic Republic’s conduct very differently.
The first complaint asked who Georgetown chose to put on the stage. The second asks whether Georgetown is prepared to critically examine what those speakers say once they are there.

Last week, AAIRIA wrote to Georgetown University raising serious concerns about the lack of viewpoint diversity in its 2026 Iran Lecture Series and asking the university to include credible Iranian voices with genuinely different perspectives.
It is shameful that a university of Georgetown’s stature chose four speakers from the same narrow NIAC-linked policy ecosystem for a series supposedly meant to educate students about Iran. In our view, this gives yet another prestigious platform to voices that have repeatedly echoed arguments favorable to accommodation with the Islamic Republic, while excluding former political prisoners, victims’ families, human-rights advocates, and national-security experts who strongly disagree with them.
Academic freedom should mean real debate and competing viewpoints, not four versions of the same argument.

The Fake Doctor Shirin Saeidi, a former University of Arkansas professor, has filed a federal lawsuit against “Alliance Against the Islamic Regime of Iran Apologists”, Lawdan Bazargan, the university’s Board of Trustees, university administrators, reporter Benjamin Weinthal and several state officials, including Senator Dan Sullivan.
For nearly six years, we have worked to expose supporters of the Islamic Republic of Iran through documented evidence and the exercise of our legal rights. We will not be silenced by lawsuits, threats, or intimidation.
This case is not just about defending ourselves; it is also about defending freedom of speech and the right to engage in civic advocacy. Allegations in a lawsuit are not established facts, and we will defend our rights with evidence.

The Fake Doctor Shirin Saeidi has now filed a federal lawsuit against AAIRIA and me, Lawdan Bazargan, along with the University of Arkansas Board of Trustees, University System President Jay Silveria, Chancellor Charles Robinson, Dean Brian Raines, Arkansas State Senator Dan Sullivan, and several other university officials and individuals. The complaint was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Arkansas and includes claims arising from the campaign surrounding her dismissal from the University of Arkansas.
We will not be intimidated into silence. For nearly two years, we have exercised our First Amendment rights to speak and petition the government by raising documented concerns through universities, public records, elected officials, and appropriate institutional channels. A lawsuit does not erase those records, and allegations in a complaint are not findings of fact.
We look forward to responding through the legal process and presenting the evidence, and by demonstrating that the complaint seeks illegally to suppress my First Amendment rights through abuse of the court system.
We stood by our work before this lawsuit, and we stand by it now.

These gatherings are organized under the Islamic Republic's official propaganda apparatus, including the Coordination Council of Islamic Propagation, which includes representation from the IRGC.
In her own words, Saeidi says she prayed for Iranian officials, calls the Supreme Leader a “martyr,” and portrays her dismissal as punishment for opposing Zionism. This is precisely why we have raised concerns about her political alignment with the Islamic Republic and the promotion of its narratives in American academia.
And now she has the audacity to sue us for publicly questioning those connections.

We do not have a Canadian Congress. A few people gathered, supported the Islamic Republic, and were terrorists. They established a charity and called it the Iranian Canadian Congress.
They blocked most of the Iranians on X, including me, and we do not recognize them as our representatives.
They can invite a naive person from anywhere and talk about anything that they want.

I am on my way to Madrid to receive an award, alongside women I deeply admire, Rosa María Payá and Yulia Navalnaya. Women who know what it costs to fight a dictatorship.
But I am not accepting this award for myself. I will be there to pick up against executions in Iran. I dedicate it to Najmeh Amini, a 23 year old accounting student in Iran.
Her crime? A social media post.
She has been sentenced to death for blasphemy. Insulting the prophet, they say. And 12 years in prison for speaking against the regime. She wrote that she is an innocent young girl who still has hopes, and that her mother spends every night in fear of losing her.
This is the true face of the Islamic Republic. A regime that hangs young women in the name of God, simply for criticizing Islam or daring to think freely. And it is getting worse. Executions in Iran are skyrocketing. In Afghanistan the Taliban do the same. This is what life under Islamic rule means for women.
So I will use this stage in Europe to say loud and clear: do not look away. Stop shaking hands and signing deals with the executioners. The real award Europe can give is to stand with the women of Iran and Afghanistan and refuse to legitimize these regimes.
That is why I am proud to announce that I will bring a delegation of women from Iran and Afghanistan to Spain. Their voices will be heard on European soil. The mullahs kill them at home. We will make Europe listen.
We need real action to save lives.

ما با تهدید و ارعاب ساکت نخواهیم شد. نزدیک به دو سال است که با استفاده از حقوق خود تحت "متمم اول قانون اساسی آمریکا برای آزادی بیان و دادخواهی از دولت"، نگرانی‌های مستند خود را از طریق دانشگاه‌ها، اسناد عمومی، مقامات منتخب و مجاری رسمی و قانونی مطرح کرده‌ایم. ثبت یک شکایت قضایی این اسناد و سوابق را از بین نمی‌برد، و ادعاهای مطرح‌شده در یک دادخواست نیز به معنای اثبات‌شدن آنها نیست.
ما از پاسخ‌گویی از مسیر قانونی و ارائه اسناد و مدارک استقبال می‌کنیم و نشان خواهیم داد که این شکایت، از طریق سوءاستفاده از نظام قضایی، به‌طور غیرقانونی در پی محدود کردن حقوق ما تحت متمم اول قانون اساسی است.
ما پیش از این شکایت از کار و مستندات خود دفاع می‌کردیم، و اکنون نیز بر همان موضع ایستاده‌ایم.

The Fake Doctor Shirin Saeidi has now filed a federal lawsuit against AAIRIA and me, Lawdan Bazargan, along with the University of Arkansas Board of Trustees, University System President Jay Silveria, Chancellor Charles Robinson, Dean Brian Raines, Arkansas State Senator Dan Sullivan, and several other university officials and individuals. The complaint was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Arkansas and includes claims arising from the campaign surrounding her dismissal from the University of Arkansas.
We will not be intimidated into silence. For nearly two years, we have exercised our First Amendment rights to speak and petition the government by raising documented concerns through universities, public records, elected officials, and appropriate institutional channels. A lawsuit does not erase those records, and allegations in a complaint are not findings of fact.
We look forward to responding through the legal process and presenting the evidence, and by demonstrating that the complaint seeks illegally to suppress my First Amendment rights through abuse of the court system.
We stood by our work before this lawsuit, and we stand by it now.

در این یادداشت استدلال کرده‌ام که دانشجویان دانشگاه جورج‌تاون شایسته آن هستند که درباره ایران با دیدگاه‌های واقعاً متفاوت و رقیب روبه‌رو شوند؛ به‌ویژه در دانشگاهی که دیپلمات‌ها و سیاست‌گذاران آینده را آموزش می‌دهد و تصمیم‌های آنان می‌تواند پیامدهای بسیار بزرگی داشته باشد.
همچنین می‌خواهم از سردبیران *The Hoya* به خاطر حرفه‌ای‌گری‌شان در تمام این فرایند تشکر کنم. این مطلب با دقت زیاد و طی یک روند جدی و سخت‌گیرانه ویرایش و راستی‌آزمایی شد و پرسش‌های آنان به من کمک کرد استدلالم را دقیق‌تر و قوی‌تر کنم.

دانشگاه جورج‌تاون باید توضیح دهد که دقیقاً چه چیزی را «بحث» درباره ایران می‌داند.
در مجموعه جدید سخنرانی‌های ایران، نرگس باجغلی، سینا عضدی، تریتا پارسی و علی کدیور حضور دارند؛ اما صداهای واقعاً متفاوت و رقیب ایرانی کجا هستند؟
این صرفاً مجموعه‌ای تصادفی از چند استاد دانشگاه نیست. میان این افراد، هم‌پوشانی قابل‌توجهی در یک شبکه مشخص از سیاست‌گذاری و فعالیت‌های مرتبط با ایران دیده می‌شود. تریتا پارسی از بنیان‌گذاران و رئیس پیشین نایاک است و اکنون از بنیان‌گذاران و معاون اجرایی مؤسسه کوئینسی است. نرگس باجغلی در برنامه‌های نایاک در کنگره آمریکا شرکت داشته است. علی کدیور و مدیر این مرکز، نادر هاشمی، در سال ۲۰۱۸ یک آگهی سیاسی را که هزینه آن توسط نایاک پرداخت شده بود امضا کردند و هاشمی پیش‌تر نیز در کنفرانسی از نایاک در سنای آمریکا شرکت کرده بود.
پس زندانیان سیاسی سابق کجا هستند؟ خانواده‌های کسانی که به دست جمهوری اسلامی اعدام شده‌اند کجا هستند؟ فعالان حقوق بشر ایرانی کجا هستند؟ پژوهشگرانی که با رویکرد این شبکه در زمینه مذاکره، تحریم‌ها، سپاه پاسداران، بازدارندگی و سیاست آمریکا در قبال ایران به‌طور بنیادی اختلاف نظر دارند کجا هستند؟
این موضوع در دانشکده‌ای که دیپلمات‌ها و سیاست‌گذاران آینده را آموزش می‌دهد اهمیت ویژه‌ای دارد. دانشجویان باید استدلال‌های رقیب را بشنوند و خودشان شواهد را ارزیابی کنند، نه اینکه فقط با یک بخش محدود از بحث درباره ایران روبه‌رو شوند.
جورج‌تاون باید به یک سؤال ساده پاسخ دهد: اگر این استدلال‌ها آن‌قدر قوی هستند، چرا آنها را در یک صحنه با صداهای جدی ایرانی که این دیدگاه‌ها را به چالش می‌کشند قرار نمی‌دهید؟
آزادی آکادمیک باید به معنای بحث بیشتر باشد، نه ایجاد یک اتاق پژواک که با دقت انتخاب شده است.

The piece argues that Georgetown students deserve to hear genuinely competing perspectives on Iran, especially when the university is training future diplomats and policymakers whose decisions may carry enormous consequences.
I also want to thank The Hoya’s editors for their professionalism throughout the process. The piece went through careful, rigorous editing and fact-checking, and their questions pushed me to sharpen the argument and make it stronger.
Academic freedom is strongest when difficult claims are tested, challenged and debated, not when one perspective dominates the conversation.

Georgetown University needs to explain what it considers a “debate” on Iran.
Its new Iran Lecture Series features Narges Bajoghli, Sina Azodi, Trita Parsi and Ali Kadivar, but where are the genuinely competing Iranian voices?
This is not simply a random collection of academics. It does demonstrate a striking overlap within the same Iran-policy and advocacy ecosystem.Trita Parsi co-founded and formerly led NIAC and is now co-founder and executive vice president of the Quincy Institute. (Quincy Institute) Narges Bajoghli has participated in NIAC programming on Capitol Hill. (NIACouncil) Ali Kadivar and the center’s director, Nader Hashemi, signed a 2018 political advertisement paid for by NIAC, while Hashemi had previously participated in a NIAC conference in the U.S. Senate. So where are the former political prisoners? The families of those executed by the Islamic Republic? Iranian human-rights advocates? Scholars who fundamentally disagree with this network’s approach to negotiations, sanctions, the IRGC, deterrence and U.S.-Iran policy?
At a School of Foreign Service educating future diplomats and policymakers, this matters. Students should hear competing arguments and be allowed to judge the evidence, not be presented with one narrow segment of the Iran debate.
Georgetown should answer a simple question:
If these arguments are strong, why not put them on the same stage with serious Iranian voices who challenge them?
Academic freedom should mean more debate, not a carefully selected echo chamber.
