We are fighting for the survival of journalism and against those who do not want 'opinionated women'. They bully only women because they think we are soft targets. I know so many women who have left social media platforms, especially X, because they cannot afford to challenge these trolls. WE WILL NOT SURRENDER.

آج دوپہر سعودی عرب کے کوڈ والے دو واٹس ایپ نمبروں، +96656237792 اور+ 966565112747، سے مجھ سے رابطہ کیا گیا۔ ایک پشتو بولنے والے شخص نے خود کو ایک کالعدم تنظیم کا نمائندہ ظاہر کرتے ہوئے بھتہ مانگا، جان سے مارنے کی دھمکیاں دیں اور کہا کہ ان کا پاکستانی ساتھی مجھ سے رابطہ کرے گا۔
گزشتہ پندرہ برس ہم نے دہشت گردی کے سائے میں زندگی گزاری ہے۔ سینکڑوں دھمکی آمیز کالوں کا سامنا کیا، بڑے بڑے سورماؤں کو بھی بھگتا ہے۔ بہت سوں کی دھمکیاں حکام کو رپورٹ کیں اور کئی مواقع پر خود بھی حالات کا ڈٹ کر مقابلہ کیا۔ ان دھمکیوں سے پہلے خوف زدہ ہوئے ہیں، نہ اب ہوں گے۔ جب تک جان میں جان ہے، دہشت گردی اور بھتہ خوری کے خلاف کھڑے رہیں گے اور ایسے عناصر کو قانون کے کٹہرے میں لانے کے لیے ہر ممکن کوشش کریں گے۔
دونوں نمبروں کی رپورٹ پاکستانی اور سعودی حکام کو کر دی ہے۔ سعودی نمبر استعمال کرنے والوں کی اصل شناخت اور مقام کی تحقیقات ضروری ہیں۔
تمام پاکستانیوں سے اپیل ہے: بھتہ خوروں کے خلاف خاموش مت رہیے۔ ثبوت محفوظ کریں، پاکستانی حکام کو اطلاع دیں اور غیر ملکی نمبر استعمال ہونے پر متعلقہ ملک کے حکام کو بھی شکایت درج کرائیں۔ ایسے عناصر کو کیفرِ کردار تک پہنچانے کے لیے حکام کو ضرور آگاہ کریں۔ ہماری خاموشی ان کی طاقت نہیں بننی چاہیے۔

Agreed - in the long run, though not all get permanent residence. I mentioned supporting families before remittances.
The issue is when non productive investments like real estate are glorified, amnesties are granted to investment in real estate, the documented economy is a tiny percentage, there is very little investment going to productive sectors which can create enough jobs for graduates. Pakistan is producing 550,000 graduates with less than 20% finding employment. So while we correct our course, the short term solution is to let some of them find jobs abroad. So far less than 10% of graduates produced every year go abroad. Thats no reason for alarm.
Having said that, there is general despondency in the youth, which should be a reason to be concerned

Unnecessary noise about “brain drain”! Over the last 10 years, an average of 604,000 Pakistanis went abroad annually for employment, predominantly in labour categories. Only COVID years saw a sharp decline. With millions entering our workforce and over 500,000 graduates annually, we should facilitate more skilled workers and graduates finding better opportunities abroad, supporting their families and significantly boosting remittances.

After launching the Tareen Oxford Scholarship, people suggested funding undergrads too. So we reached out to LUMS to be make it happen.
Every year, we will fully fund six undergraduate students from South Punjab, three young women and three young men.
Investing in people is the best investment. More to come IA.
