TRAVIS COUNTY EARLY VOTE UPDATE:
First half of the day pacing AHEAD of Monday! More than 23,000 Travis County residents have voted already today.
Get out there and help us break records! 🗳️🙌🎉
America Priorities, which went head-to-head with @AIPAC this cycle and beat them in most races, is out with a statement following AIPAC's announcement that they will not be endorsing candidates in the future, relying instead on their super PAC and directed individual giving. Per their statement:
"Late yesterday, the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) announced that it will no longer endorse candidates, make direct PAC contributions, or publicly earmark donations to campaigns. The organization’s leadership justified this decision by calling the 2026 election cycle “one of the most challenging environments in recent memory.”Â
"The real reasoning behind this tactical retreat is much simpler: an AIPAC endorsement has become a liability and, under pressure from elected officials and candidates, the group is trying to further muddy the waters.
"While AIPAC-backed candidates were coached to say as little as possible about Israel, Palestine, and the war crimes being committed in Gaza, candidates backed by American Priorities spoke honestly, with a conviction that reflected where the mainstream of the Democratic Party has shifted. Voters rejected the status quo, which told them that stepping out of line on this issue represented a betrayal or, worse, of strongly-held American values around human rights and international law.
"AIPAC’s public relations gambit notably leaves in place its super PAC, United Democracy Project and its associated shell PACs. But the shift away from endorsements and other direct contributions will only serve to make the group’s efforts less transparent.
"This retreat does not change the odds American Priorities is up against, but it is a direct response to the success of our efforts in pushing Democrats to listen to their constituents. Until American foreign policy honestly reflects the will of the voters, and the United States’ role in genocide is severed, AP is committed to fighting, spending, and making sure voters know exactly who is paying for their representatives’ silence."
i just want to say that @JesseFFerguson is really fucking good at this and everyone should listen to him

The TL;DR of @chrislehane's post is:
1. There's a bunch of great policy ideas we would like to see done vaguely in the future.
2. We like talking about these proposals, but don't actually want them to become law.
3. Because the most likely path for any of these ideas to actually become law is through state legislatures, we will lobby hard in the lame duck session for bills with anti-democracy clauses to stop states from implementing them.
Amid upset in the AI safety world over leaked proposals from Anthropic, @chrislehane from OpenAI pounces with an essay calling for congressional action. He continues leaning into Obernolte/Trahan FRONTIER and even nods to kill switches linkedin.com/pulse/raising-b…

Send @_gallantny to Congress IMMEDIATELY
“Authenticity” isn’t just a buzzword people complain to pollsters about. Voters are telling everyone — from New York Mag To Newsday — they are over the status quo.
When Long Island congressional candidate Chris Gallant’s bondage photos leaked, he decided to lean in instead of dropping out. It seems to be working. nymag.com/intelligencer/arti…

This bill also includes an anti-democracy provision (preemption).
Forward-looking anti-democracy provisions should be DOA.
But even if you would accept some Anthropic's June framework says, "Congress should not preempt state law unless it enacts a rigorous federal regime that meets or exceeds the strongest measures proposed in this framework."
Yet this bill is weaker than the framework, and in some places, weaker than existing state laws (e.g. internal use, reporting timelines, types of risks covered, etc.).
By Anthropic's own June standards, this bill should not include any anti-democracy provision.

Anthropic is pitching a bill that closely matches its framework from June.
How can you watch Hugging Face, Coxon, & rogue AI swarms, and conclude that the bill you cooked up in June is sufficient?
This comes nowhere close to the speed of developments nor the speed we need to keep people safe.

Another reminder that there are no “good” or “responsible” AI hyperscalers.
Everything they do is about increasing their power & profits.
If anything they do actually benefits humanity, it’s because it happens to align with their business interests — so it’s purely incidental.

I was @LeadingFutureAI's top target. I want to send a genuine thank you to @RonConway for realizing how destructive they are.
Changing your mind is rare in politics, and I appreciate it.
I also have a genuine question: Ron, can you also confirm that you won't fund @innovationcncl, @BuildAmericanAI, @aftfuture, and other groups committed to stopping regulation? Or does this only apply to PACs that have to disclose donors?
And perhaps you'll go a step further and donate an equivalent amount to @GuardrailsNow, @TomorrowTgthr, or Public First / Jobs and Democracy, to offset your LTF contribution?
(And yes, this tweet may look familiar)

In @AlexBores campaign, he faced big $ from AI SuperPAC (LTF)
Most candidates treat eight figures of attack ads as something to survive. He treated it as a witness to call
He didn't duck the fight they picked
He put it on the ballot.
This ⬇️ doesn't happen if he doesn't.

This is the correct way to deal with stuff in your past online: Own it! For the most part, voters are pretty forgiving as long as you’re honest — especially when the content (like scandalous pics) doesn’t materially change the way you’d govern.
“I mean, all my friends know I’m kinky” as hell, he said, using a saltier word. “I make Christian Grey look like amateur hour.”

AI safety groups aren’t buying OpenAI's shifting stance on spending in the midterms
“I won’t believe that they are actually changing their strategy, or their goals I should say, unless and until they do,” @AlexBores told me yesterday

I believe that @OpenAI just committed perjury.
They were sworn in, under oath, and repeatedly said they supported the RAISE Act.
I guess they assume that no court will ever hold them accountable?
