A note from Libby Skarin, ACLU of WY executive director: A second Trump administration is a clear and present danger to our democratic norms, processes, and institutions. As the dust settles, we know we’ll find ourselves in a new era in our fight for civil liberties. 🧵 1/6

Budget session starts today. Session doesn't have to be a circus, but it appears the lure of sideshow attractions are taking priority in the minds of our elected leaders. Find the bills we're tracking, actions you can take and advocacy resources here. aclu-wy.org/session/

Sec. Gray’s new proposal to require dual citizens to have to choose between renouncing one of their citizenships or relinquishing their constitutional right to vote and run for office is misguided and likely unconstitutional. wyomingnews.com/news/local_n…

Dual citizenship is a status long recognized in our country’s laws. And the government has neither the power to revoke citizenship recognized by another country nor the authority to force a U.S. citizen to renounce any citizenship status.

This is especially true in the context of voting where the U.S. Constitution prohibits the state from conditioning a benefit, such as exercising one’s right to vote, on the giving up of another right, such as a second citizenship.

The Legislature’s Joint Judiciary Committee will be deciding if they’ll sponsor legislation that would ban books and penalize librarians with excessive monetary fines for providing access to books some say are inappropriate for kids. 2/3

The right to vote is the fundamental right on which all other civil liberties rest. On this #NationalVoterRegistrationDay, take time to register to vote or confirm your voter registration at vote.gov.

Using a local jail to detain people for ICE, some who have no criminal record, and expecting to use it as a funding solution is inhumane, cruel and short-sighted. Sheriff Kopp, tearing families apart is not in the best interest of Wyoming or your budget. wyofile.com/the-uinta-county…
