The perfectionist.
Frenkie de Jongโs game is predominantly based on intelligenceโ that doesnโt mean heโs not physically inclined. Itโs a no-brainer that intelligence supersedes physicality.
One of the best elements among elite midfielders is awareness. Frenkieโs awareness allows him to discriminate between how to adapt in game states with and without his co-midfield partner (Pedri).
Itโs easy to notice how frequent Frenkie looks subpar sometimes without Pedri. Is that normal? Yes. Itโs the same with Vitinha without his other co-midfield partner (Joao Neves). Itโs also the same with Tchouameni without a proper #8.
Frenkie, when paired with Garcia in midfield, intuitively becomes aware heโs paired with a makeshift midfielder.
During these moments, he ceases to take further risks to help Garcia escape difficult pressure situations.
Frenkie has morphed into a perfectionist.
There are countless moments where Frenkie ignores running triggers, turns and releases the ball by playing it safe.
Yes he absorbs pressure to help his teammates, but does he absorb it to create danger? That barely happens.
Every ball is always a calculated effort. Deliver the perfect short and long passes. Opting for perfection in most cases earns you nothing but few safe passing completions.
Less risks = less damage. Pedri knows that and doesnโt mind the end results of losing the ball when creating danger.
Check this out guys. Finally something knowledgeable you can enjoy. Too much toxicity on the TL.
Take your time and venture into this incredible work by Beck.
What makes a defender most valuable in possession?
Introducing: The 3 Keys. ๐
> Escape: Does the press get anywhere?
> Footprint: How much of the pitch can he reach?
> Balance: Is the team structurally safe?
Our test subjects:
Pau Cubarsรญ and Alessandro Bastoni.
Two of the best progressive defenders on earth.
One is an Anchor, a central CB. The other is a Mutant, a wide CB who can also play at FB.
I picked them because they show the keys through two different routes, and because they show how well-rounded defenders adapt to whatever the game demands.
My 5 Locks model judges how a defender defends without the ball.
This 3 Keys model judges the other way to defend: By influencing and dominating the game with the ball.
Let's see how they use each key to unlock the game.

The Enrique part is redundant. Itโs the duty of every club to support the manager however they can. Weโve seen other clubs spend as much as PSG, yet they donโt play like best team in Europe.
I wonโt stress much on this topic, but praise Flick without bringing Erinque into this.
Lots of disrespect towards Flick for losing to Madrid with a defence the club couldn't upgrade due to finances.
I am repeating it. For me, Hansi Flick is the best manager and coach in the world. Nothing anyone says will change my mind.
No disrespect, Luis Enrique without Qatari petrodollars will be a mid table coach. Pep Guardiola without UAE petrodollars wouldn't have lasted 2 years at City.
This is the Best coach for Barรงa and alot of you will realise it the day he leaves. ๐
Itโs like telling Enrique and Pep that possession makes their game so predictable. Even with Flickโs vertical approach, our games are more predictable in big games because we have no counter measures. This is why some of our players burn out mid game because they can hardly con
One of the best things Flick brought to Barรงa was getting rid of the possession obsession that made our football painfully slow and predictable.
We still play possession football, but under Flick, possession finally feels like a means to an end rather than an end in itself. We're more vertical, aggressive and willing to play forward quickly, and I don't want us to lose that.
Lately, though, I've felt Flick is shifting back towards slower football and prioritising control. I'm not sure how much influence Rodri has on that, but Flick is ultimately the one responsible for how we play so i can never blame Rodri for this.
Flick needs to not let Rodri's Pep-influenced mentality affect his decisions too much.
Against Madrid, we sacrificed our attacking threat by playing slower without actually fixing our defensive problems. Slower football doesn't automatically mean more defensive security.
This is why I want Flick to stick to his aggressive, vertical approach and stop listening to anyone pushing him away from it whether it's the media or the fans or the players.
Against a very good side, theyโre moments where you need to assert more control over the ball, read your opponents steadily and bait them. Weโve lost games we shouldnโt have in previous seasons because we were overly vertical and died by our own sword. Being overly vertical in a
PSGโs recruitment model is really incredible. Theyโre more interested in problem solvers. Players that are more self sufficient yet with the ability to show more commitment in OOP work.
Must be fun signing the right players while having unlimited funds.
๐จ๐ Paris Saint-Germain have concrete interest in Ibrahim Maza ahead of the winter transfer window, with the playerโs side aware of the interest. Heโs one of the candidates on their shortlist, potentially also as a replacement for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.
Bayer Leverkusen are unfazed and are determined to extend his contract beyond 2030, including a salary adjustment. They see Maza as a future key player.

To some extent. Rodri is not entirely wrong, because we get ahead of ourselves sometimes. Theyโre moments where our players need to breathe and conserve energy by maintaining possession instead of being overly vertical with our play.
You get to see the game much better the more

What was the point of signing Rodri?
To add much needed calmness IP and defensive solidity, obviously.
It is important to understand what context he arrives from under Pep and City, a side that played a brand of football quite different to rest of the league.
The thing about players who switched clubs before and after Pepโs departure (Gundo and Rodri) perceive to themselves to have better philosophical knowledge about the sport than their current managers and teammates.
Mentality monster gimmick instead of succumbing to the ideas of

The worst thing about modern social media times when it comes to teenage stars like Lamine is that every single thing he does is being microanalysed and sensationalised. He is teenager, he will make a mistake here and there on and off the pitch and he will learn from it. Allow him time to grow up.
Iโm more worried about our current form. Weโve lost two big games so far and our conditions regarding the backline is very concerning. All our defenders atm are without backups.
I hope this wonโt have any negative impact on our season.

Lamine fully disguised his intentions here. Pacho and Stefanov didnโt expect him to shot from here btw.
Lamine had a bad game last night, yet he never lost concentration. Kept going till the match ended. This is the type of mentality I yearn for Gordon. Instigate a reaction
Harry Kane won it. Well deserved, but it was already decided when they gave Lamine the young best player award
