🍁🍂 Maryland Fall Foliage Report 🍁🍂
Foliage is past peak in Garrett County; at peak in Washington, Baltimore, and Cecil counties; and starting to change in earnest on the lower Eastern Shore.
Keep an eye out for vibrant yellow hickory trees and sunset-hued sugar maples.
Somerset County’s trees are getting into the spirit of the season. Around every corner you can see evidence of the cooler, near frost nights with trees in every fall fashionable color imaginable. We are not quite near peak, but we are close.
It is a colorful time as red maples and sweet gums can be a mix of yellow, orange and crimson red on the same tree! The black gums are a deep scarlet red to burgundy and purple in the understory, with flowering dogwood also turning deep reddish purple with red berries and next year’s buds visible. Also in the lower canopy shrub layer we see staghorn sumac turning deep pink to burgundy. White oak leaves range from burnt orange or copper to red. Yellow poplars are beginning to turn bright yellow in the upper canopies.
We have some areas in the county that look like it has already snowed. The groundsel bush with its profuse snowy white and cream colored flowers is in full bloom. Also known as waterbush or saltbush, the fluffy flowers resemble small paintbrushes. This plant with its grey green leaves tells you where the solid ground is.

If Question 3 passes, Harford and Cecil Counties will be gerrymandered into a district with Baltimore City, and the rest of the Eastern Shore will be gerrymandered into a district with Howard and Anne Arundel Counties.
Democrats will have an advantage in all 8 districts, Annapolis's political opposition will be silenced, and the 1 million+ Marylanders who vote Republican will be disenfranchised.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD — THE HOMECOMING DANCE IS GETTING CANCELED AT TWO MCPS HIGH SCHOOLS AFTER STUDENTS FAILED TO BUY ENOUGH TICKETS.
Northwest High School and Quince Orchard High School have canceled their traditional homecoming dances because of low student participation.
According to FOX 5 DC:
• Northwest High School: Fewer than 200 tickets sold.
• Quince Orchard High School: Just 63 tickets sold.
School officials made the decisions after ticket sales deadlines passed. Northwest acknowledged the disappointment for students who had already purchased tickets and made plans to attend. Refunds will be issued.
Other homecoming festivities, including school spirit activities and football-related celebrations, will continue.
This isn’t the first Montgomery County school to move away from the traditional dance. Thomas S. Wootton High School discontinued its homecoming dance several years ago, replacing it with a carnival following the football game.
Students interviewed by FOX 5 expressed disappointment, arguing that homecoming remains an important high school tradition even when attendance is low.
Meanwhile, schools in Washington, D.C., and Prince George’s County reportedly still have their dances scheduled.
Fewer than 200 tickets at one school. Just 63 at another. Two traditional homecoming dances canceled.
Is the high school homecoming dance becoming a thing of the past, or are schools failing to offer events students actually want to attend?
