New paper in @consbiog where we found that species distribution models appeared to be quite conservative compared to observed changes in species occurrences.

We saw the same thing at the species level, and that habitat specialists and narrow-ranged species (i.e. species that you might expect to disappear) were worse predicted. That is, most observed local extinctions of specialists were predicted as persistences.
One week left until the deadline!
🚨PhD Position: Evaluation of protected areas and other conservation measures in an era of land use and climate change
🌱Join a lovely team looking back in time to study biodiversity change and its drivers

Our new study in @NatureEcoEvo looks at how assemblages of birds, butterflies and plants have changed across Great Britain in the last 50 or so years.

🧵Some key results
This study builds on our previous work where we presented the historical land use data set and related it to species' local extinction risk and range changes.

The new paper was led brilliantly by Teresa Montràs Janer (now at @GreenswayEco), with help from fabulous collaborators and of course many many many species recorders.
Apologies in advance for probable lack of engagement with any questions on here, but I know what I'm like 🥲

New paper! We studied land-use change in Britain since 1930s. Land use & climate change had positive effects on many species, while specialists benefitted from habitat retention, and local negative responses broadly translated into national-level declines. nature.com/articles/s41467-0…
See thread by @andysuggitt for the full lowdown.

📢New research alert! Our new paper investigating the interactive effects of land-use change and climate change on biodiversity is out this week in @NatureComms! This includes a shiny new land-use change map for Britain. A thread on the findings...🧵(1/17) nature.com/articles/s41467-0…

New paper out with @JCSvenning with where we find that climate warming and habitat conversion have had synergistic effects on biodiversity change, both in terms of which species have done worse, and which have done better over the past 60 years.
