How do brain responses change to other's fear across the transition to parenthood? Our lab's new study adds to this small literature and includes task-based fMRI data from men before and after the birth of their first child. Check it out now: doi.org/10.1111/jne.70276

What happens in the brain as content shown by algorithms shifts from generic to 'For You'? Excited to share our new preprint studying just this! Using fNIRS, we tracked neural connectivity while users freely scrolled on a new TikTok account for 35 minutes osf.io/preprints/psyarxiv/ad….
Having more symptoms of problematic social media use was associated with different trajectories of intra-prefrontal and prefrontal-temporal connectivity depending on how successful personalization was, and these diverging trajectories appear to emerge by ~20 min into scrolling.

📢 I'll be recruiting a PhD student in Developmental Psychology for 2026 at UNC Chapel Hill! Student will be co-mentored with Dr. Eva Telzer at the Winston Center. Interests in naturalistic fMRI/fNIRS, developmental affective neuro, and behavioral addictions would be great fits.
Our new study in Emotion!
The parenting paradox: higher satisfaction yet lower daily happiness/stress. So in the transition to parenthood, how do we study well-being? We studied how new fathers adapt by examining meaning/purpose and brain connectivity.
doi.org/10.1037/emo0001574
Further studying the distinctions in how these affective processes develop in new parents can help us understand the complex factors distinguishing normative negative emotions in new parenthood from those which may represent risks to overall well-being and mental health.
Shout to senior author @darbysaxbe for supporting this work, as well as my co-authors @philnewsomejr @YWaizman and Geoff Corner.
