President Tinubu Seeks Senate Approval To Borrow $20.5bn (₦27.55 trillion) and €1.05bn (₦1.57 trillion) For 2026–2027 Projects
President Bola Tinubu has asked the Senate to approve an external borrowing plan of $20.52 billion and €1.05 billion to bridge funding gaps under the Federal Government’s 2026–2027 supplementary borrowing plan.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio read the President’s request during plenary on Tuesday, stating that the proposed loans would help address Nigeria’s infrastructure deficit and fund critical sectors of the economy.
In the letter, Tinubu requested approval for $20,517,755,901 and €1,045,083,643, with investments planned for power, transportation, healthcare, education, agriculture, water supply, security, job creation and financial management reforms.
“I submit the attached Federal Government 2026–2027 Supplementary External Borrowing Plan for consideration and early approval of the National Assembly to ensure prompt implementation of our projects,” the President wrote.
Tinubu said the proposed projects had undergone technical and economic assessments to ensure they contribute to poverty reduction, skills development, entrepreneurship and national food security.
He added that external borrowing had become necessary to meet the country’s substantial infrastructure financing needs.
Following the presentation, Akpabio referred the request to the Senate Committee on Local and Foreign Debts, chaired by Senator Haruna Manu, for detailed review, with support from the Committees on Appropriations and Finance.
Akpabio noted that aspects of the borrowing framework had featured in earlier government borrowing plans approved for 2025–2027. However, he said the committee would examine the scope of the latest request before further legislative action.
The committee’s review is expected to clarify the proposed borrowing arrangements, disbursement timeline and alignment with Nigeria’s existing debt management framework.

The unspoken thing in this video is that the Ethiopian military seized a cache of arms allegedly bearing Kenyan ’Ministry of Defence’ labelling as indicated in the tweet below.
🚨🇪🇹 BREAKING: Reports indicate that during recent security operations in northern Ethiopia, the ENDF and the TPF uncovered a major weapons cache from TPLF remnants in the Tigray region.
🇰🇪 Interestingly, among the captured munitions is Kenya Ministry of Defence (MoD)-labelled ammunition, specifically 14.5×114mm API cartridges with contract numbers matching Eastern African military supplies.
This finding raises serious questions regarding foreign involvement, regional defense logistics, and how military equipment destined for Kenya ended up in insurgent hands within Ethiopia.

Ethiopia seeks to exert pressure on Khartoum—or to neutralize any potential Sudanese role that might support Ethiopian opposition movements or restive regions like #Tigray and #Amhara along its western border—with the aim of establishing a new political and military reality in the Blue Nile region and the borderlands that serves its national security interests. To this end, #Ethiopia provides support to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), offering military and logistical assistance, as well as training facilities. Ethiopia harbors long-standing ambitions regarding Sudanese territories—specifically the #AlFashqa and Al-Butana regions, extending as far as the city of Wad Madani—claiming these as its "historical rights." The administration of Abiy Ahmed has established training camps and logistical hubs for the RSF near the shared border. Furthermore, the Sudanese Armed Forces, along with various government and civilian sites, have been targeted by drone strikes launched from Ethiopian territory; recent instances include attacks on civilians in Wad Madani and the Blue Nile State, as well as a drone strike against Sudanese individuals in Al-Dahaba. Abiy Ahmed aims to address the issue of port access and escape his country’s "stifling" geopolitical situation as a landlocked nation. Consequently, it is in his interest for #Sudan to remain mired in a war of attrition. Simultaneously, he has sought to manufacture crises with Eritrea in the hope of securing access to the Red Sea, and has also supported the secession of "#Somaliland" to achieve the same objective. Ethiopia itself suffers from a fragile national structure, comprising eighty ethnic groups—most notably the #Oromo (35%), #Amhara (26%), and Tigray (7%)—that frequently engage in conflict and warfare with one another. Currently, all of these groups stand in opposition to Abiy Ahmed. Consequently, Abiy Ahmed is seeking to alter the system of governance and consolidate his position as Ethiopia’s leader by amending the constitution—a process for which he has already begun laying the groundwork, having marginalized all other political factions. He has targeted rival ethnic groups, carrying out acts of genocide, ethnic cleansing, forced displacement, and the use of starvation as a weapon in the Tigray, Amhara, Benishangul, and #Ogaden regions, as well as other parts of Ethiopia. Furthermore, he aims to return Ethiopia to a centralized system—effectively dismantling the existing federal structure—as a precursor to a "national dialogue" with opposing ethnic groups regarding the future of governance. His ultimate objective is to establish himself as the unchallenged leader of Ethiopia through military force, having already eliminated all his rivals. Ultimately, we will not permit the partition of Sudan or Somalia, nor will we tolerate any aggression against #Eritrea or #Djibouti. Moreover, we will not allow the establishment of ports for any landlocked nation that lacks a coastline on the #RedSea Anyone wishing to reach the Red Sea can only do so according to our terms. Brandishing force to gain access to the Red Sea will be of no avail; we will strike any target—whether on land, at sea, or in the air. This is our domain, and we are capable of defending it.
