Whether it’s throughout the hospitality or delivery industry, we’ve seen how crucial direct employment is to ensuring workers receive the protections, wages, and dignity they deserve. HTC was proud to stand with labor and elected officials today to support the Delivery Protection Act, which will improve the lives of thousands of workers across our city.
TEAMSTERS RALLY FOR DELIVERY PROTECTION ACT AT NEW YORK CITY HALL Today, Teamsters General President Sean M. O’Brien joined hundreds of rank-and-file Amazon Teamsters and New York City elected officials, including Mayor Zohran Mamdani, for a rally at City Hall urging Council Speaker Julie Menin to schedule an immediate vote on the Delivery Protection Act. The Delivery Protection Act, authored by Councilmember Tiffany Cabán (D-22nd District), would require delivery companies like Amazon to register their facilities with the city and ban subcontracting for last-mile delivery drivers in the five boroughs. Amazon uses a corrupt subcontracting model in which third-party “Delivery Service Partners” shield the company from legal liability while making billions in profit. The bill is supported by a majority of the City Council and Mayor Mamdani. “Amazon is America’s most corrupt white-collar crime syndicate, wasting millions to rob warehouse workers of the right to collectively bargain while designing a nationwide subcontracting scheme to deny employment rights to its entire fleet of delivery drivers,” O’Brien said. “New York City is a vital artery of Amazon’s global logistics operations, and it must be the first city to pass the Delivery Protection Act. Amazon’s unchecked exploitation of drivers and parcel delivery workers has got to end. The Teamsters are honored to lead the fight to fix a broken system stacked against working people, and we thank Mayor Mamdani, Councilmember Cabán, and the supermajority of the City Council for standing with workers at this critical moment.”

Zohran, city council members, and labor leaders rallied today outside City Hall in support of the Delivery Protection Act, proposed in New York City, which would force Amazon to take responsibility for these workers. Amazon is using subcontractors to hire and manage delivery drivers without officially employing those workers, all to skirt liability for damages or injuries, and this bill would remedy that injustice.

New York City can no longer allow Amazon to hide behind subcontractors so they can exploit its workers and pollute our streets. That’s why @NYCComptroller @nycpa @bradhoylman and I are calling on @NYCCouncil to delay no further, and bring the Delivery Protection Act to a vote!

The workers who wear Amazon vests and drive vans with the company’s logo aren’t legally employed by Amazon. But that could change in NYC, under legislation that Teamsters, Amazon workers, and the Democratic Socialists of America are organizing to pass labornotes.org/2026/10/amazo…

It’s Amazon’s Big Deal Prime Day, which means the $3 trillion company will be making billions of dollars in sales this week. But how much of the profits are going to the workers who run Amazon? We asked @amazonteamsters how they are fighting for higher wages:

Nearly 15,000 safety violations on NYC’s streets. This is how Amazon operates in our communities. We need to pass the Delivery Protection Act so we can hold Amazon accountable for harming workers and causing havoc on our streets. nydailynews.com/2026/09/29/l…

We are pleased to see @GovKathyHochul acknowledge that New Yorkers cannot afford a raise freeze as costs of living is sky rocketing. Let’s work together to strengthen the law by removing all off-ramps that freeze raises and establishing wage parity upstate.
