Important example of this is the word GENOCIDE. The push against using that word to accurately describe whats happening to Palestinians is due to the fact that in the political sphere, many countries have signed treaties that require them to intervene in genocides. It is a word that carries legal ramifications.
The current dumbing down of the general public is not a bug, it is a feature.
