🗣️ « Eren est devenu un protagoniste responsable d’un massacre d’une ampleur rarement atteinte dans d’autres œuvres de fiction. Si j’ai imaginé une telle histoire dès le départ, c’était en partie par envie de construire un récit marqué par un grand plot twist, où la victime devient le bourreau. Mais cela tenait aussi largement à ma propre immaturité et à ma naïveté à l’époque, au début de ma vingtaine. Cet élément est devenu le noyau du personnage d’Eren, jusqu’au moment où il avoue non pas comme quelqu’un poussé au mal par les circonstances, mais comme quelqu’un qui portait en lui le désir de nuire.
Cependant, L'Attaque des Titans avait depuis longtemps cessé de m’appartenir exclusivement, et Eren était devenu un personnage aimé de nombreux lecteurs. Au final, sans aller jusqu’au bout de l’idée d’en faire une figure véritablement détestable, je me suis retrouvé à le dépeindre avec une certaine proximité, voire une forme de sympathie. Il en résulte, du moins à mes propres yeux, une impression d’inabouti, ou d’un manque de sincérité, dans la conclusion de l’histoire. »

What I truly wanted was to create a dialogue between Ymir & Mikasa in the cabin memory which reveals that Ymir was the one triggering that memory.
I wanted to show that Ymir influenced Mikasa to kill Eren by reminding her that she killed him many years ago but still was able to see him again.
I wanted to show that also in the cabin, Ymir reminded Mikasa that she killed Eren in another memory where he was committing a world genocide. But she was still able to see him again.
I wanted to show how Ymir tricked them so that the story keeps repeating in order to re-live her miserable life with her beloved king husband.
I also wanted to extend Eren and Mikasa's dialogue.
I wanted to show that Eren finally regretted to leave his friends behind and was about to join them and repeat the rumbling again.
Which is the moment where Ymir reminded Mikasa what happened many years ago with the rumbling.
To avoid it to happen again, Mikasa had to kill Eren in the cabin and wish to see him again in a better life.
