While magnificent things have happened today in the Midlands, matters at Strawberry Hill continue to move along nicely.

π¨ π‘ππͺ: Old Trafford is now singing: "STAND UP, IF YOU HATE GLAZERS"
And the entire stadium is standing up.

"Sell United and f*k off home" sing MUFC fans, the only good thing about the club right now.
And it's right. The Glazers have made their money many times over for 21 years. Fans never wanted it and that takeover should never have been allowed. Do the right thing: sell up and go.

RMT on war footing with Northern. "I will also be making it clear that any imposition of a different method of operation, that moves away from conductors having full control of the doors, will be met with the full industrial and political force of the union."

Driver door operation means guards don't have to set foot on every platform, and disabled people relying on e.g. ramps start unstaffed stations can get missed.
It is also the first step to driver only operation.

From a source very close to East West Rail: "Guards may be paid more, but their overtime is paid at flat rate. The customer service inspectors are paid slightly less, but their overtime is paid at double time. So, they could potentially cost more." DOO is all political ideology.

DOO, and make no mistake that is where the use of customer service inspectors will eventually lead, would turn parts of the network into no go areas for many women and disabled. Only the naive believe that this is being done to benefit passengers.

The only people who benefit from not having a second safety critical person onboard are those in the treasury. Fares will not be reduced and passengers won't be safer. The cost of employing the proposed inspectors is little less than employing a guard, so why not employ a guard?
How can @RMTunion go on strike when they havenβt allowed the railway to start operating yet????? Itβs a joke.
Really @Heidi_Labour - itβs your railway now. You sort it out. The taxpayers and the passengers want to see trains in service on the new railway they have paid for.

We understand that disruption on the railway can be frustrating and we will always do all that we can to help every customer that comes to us - unless they talk to us like this.
This will not be tolerated and is not acceptable.
Treat others with kindness and respect, you will see that people are much happier to help. This is abusive and threatening.
You have been reported.

No to driver-only operations on Chiltern
RMT has rejected plans to introduce Driver Only Operation (DOO) on the new East West Rail line following confirmation that Chiltern Railways intends to operate services on the new route without a second safety-critical member of staff, despite RMTβs long-standing opposition to DOO.
The union is demanding clear guarantees that East West Rail services operated by Chiltern will not be DOO and that a second safety-critical member of staff will be a mandatory requirement for trains to run.
RMT general secretary Eddie Dempsey said that a guaranteed safety-critical second person onboard trains was essential for carrying out a wide range of duties and responding properly to dangerous and fast-moving situations.
βWe need a clear commitment from Chiltern that East West Rail services will not be Driver Only Operation and that a second safety-critical member of staff will be guaranteed.
βPassengers value the reassurance of having staff onboard, and RMT remains totally opposed to DOO and will use all of the political and industrial strength available to defend safety on the railway,β he said.

Every time I pass a gorgeous GWR train I feel a twinge of sadness that this classy and timeless design is about to be extinguished by a senseless and tacky Scooch rebrand, thanks to nationalisation.
