he would return the smile. never before had he the pleasure of such curious company. excellent is a strong word for what the captain believes to be a passable knowledge of basic. enough to communicate simply on occasion. he could stand to learn more. -
ilia looks up at the captain, still clinging to her brother, and offers a shy smile. he seems nice, from what she can feel from him. the manโ€™s sudden โ€” and excellent โ€” usage of basic throws eve for a loop. they had wondered earlier, when heโ€™d said what they thought was โ€˜yesโ€™, --

- โ€œyes. my apologies for theโ€” misdirection, eve. i had to be certain.โ€ he straightened up, a knowing expression on his face. โ€œi trust you are aware of why.โ€

โ€œah, my apologies. i can imagine how it feelsโ€ฆ travelling to worlds beyond my own, i am the stranger there.โ€ he tried to reassure her. โ€œi am sure this feeling will pass in good time.โ€
she looks at him, "oh- yes it is. it just means that i'm not particularly comfortable yet. everything is just kinda unusual and unfamiliar." kash shrugs, "i'm just not used to all this, and i'm not used to being the one who looks kooky."
144
โ€œof course, i can run you through the basics whenever you feel ready.โ€ crew members passed them in each direction as they wandered the corridors, their journey well underway. โ€œis that some kind of expression?โ€
she follows him, "as long as i can get what's necessary i can handle it." kash watches as people pass, offering polite smiles and nods. "i feel like a fish out of water."

โ€œyou are a fast learner, perhaps i could teach you.โ€ he stood with her, leading the way out of the bridge. โ€œshift rotation. operatives nonessential to our voyage may do as they please, for a time.โ€
she nods, standing. "what's happening?" her hands are folded right back and she watches people file out. "i'm assuming i may need to catch on to some of the language?"

โ€œno, but i have met a few remarkable individuals during my time here. not all appears lost.โ€ there was a chime, and a voice spoke over the intercom in a language she would not understand. many of the officers got up to leave. โ€œah, yes. shall we?โ€
kash nods, "i know all about the lack of trust amongst people in general." she looks back out, "the galaxy has never been very trusting, honestly."

he turns his gaze from the starry vortex to find a similarly bright look in her eyes. โ€œyou are most welcome. trust does not seem to pass freely around here, nor does it where i come from, between my people and others. it is my pleasure.โ€
kash nods, "i see." she watches the man next to her for a moment, then saying "thank you for trusting me enough to bring me along."

the chiss around them seemed to slow down, with less to do now between systems. โ€œmore often than not, yes. inter-system journeys back home are usually shorter than anything in lesser space.โ€
kash's eyes widened, "maker, i forgot how pretty this all was.." she folds her hands in her lap, watching as the galaxy went by them. "and you get to see this all the time, huh?"

a most curious reaction. โ€œvery good. now, i believe we have our heading.โ€ the navigation console chimed, his daughter inputting coordinates to their incomplete map of the galaxy. the stars before them began to swirl into a brilliant blue vortex.
kash's cheeks flushed. "i will make note of that.." she offered a smile and went back to watching the open space in front of them.

โ€œno, not at all. in fact, i find it to be quite charming.โ€ the captain smiled reassuringly. โ€œi am sure we would both be delighted to learn more from you.โ€
"it's not bothering you, is it?" she says, brows furrowing in concern. "i can stop if you would like. try to not let them slip.."

โ€œlittle oneโ€ฆ hm. yes, i recall you explaining your experience with the mandalorian people.โ€ solus observed as the child donned a headset, one which covered her eyes. โ€œyou seem to have a lot of these terms.โ€
"yes, it means little one." she looks up at him, "mando'a." kash rests her chin on her knuckles. "it is usually a term of endearment."

โ€œthat is kind of you to say. she is integral to our operations, butโ€ฆ i am unsure how much i can tell you.โ€ the ship continued upwards, coruscant now a glittering orb beneath them. โ€œhow did you address her? adโ€™ika?โ€
kash nods to the girl, "good day, ad'ika." she smiles, "she is absolutely darling, solus."

the girl smiled in return, bowing before them. โ€œgood day.โ€ she said cheerily, before taking a seat at the console. โ€œthis is silโ€™este, my daughter, and navigator here aboard the nebula.โ€
kash leaned forward, smiling at the girl. "who's this, solus?" her eyes drifted back up to the man next to her, then right back to the girl.

he returned the look, offering a small yet knowing smile. the doors to the bridge opened behind them, just as a console lit up a short distance in front of them, backed by a chair smaller than any other on the bridge. a chiss girl wandered over and stood beside solus.
kash looks at him, brows raised. "really? and who is that?" she crosses her legs and leans back into the chair, turning to watch the rest of the crew shuffle about.

โ€œso it shall be, admiral. may warriorโ€™s fortune be in your favour.โ€ he bowed, and turned to take his leave.
โ€œDismissed, Mid-Captain. Transmit your orders to whichever vessel you chooseโ€”perhaps the Springhawk? Iโ€™m sure Samakro would be pleased and Thrawn would love to see her again.โ€

the captain offers them both a reassuring nod, more so aimed at the young one. they are in safe hands, and he would intend on keeping it that way, until their safe departure could be guaranteed. -
theyโ€™re more than grateful to have been picked up by someone without ill intent, and willing to at least give them this. eve knows how to fight, but itโ€™s difficult to do so when one is brought aboard unconscious. eve nods and glances down to ilia, says something in the --

- โ€œhmm.โ€ solus takes a moment to think, clasping his hands behind his back. โ€œperhapsโ€ฆ this would be easier for you?โ€ his words are clear, yet heavily accented.
27
โ€œvery well, admiral. thank you for your time.โ€ he would be eager to return and join the fight on their own territory.
โ€œIf you have it, then take one. Baโ€™kif already gave you the authority to do so. The only ship you cannot have is the Steadfast.โ€ She is on the trail of the Gryskโ€”they seem awfully interested in Lesser Space and she seeks to know why.
