Capitalism rewards hard work and results. Union contracts reward seniority. Great teachers should be able to earn six figures. Instead, a dedicated young teacher can make less than half of a 20-year veteran who shows movies all day. And the bad teacher is nearly impossible to fire. Collective bargaining locks everyone's income in place based on seniority, not performance. Top teachers can’t earn more, and underperformers stay protected.

Unions respond to declining membership the same way any good socialist or communist organization would: They try to silence their opponents. They passed anti-Freedom Foundation laws in Oregon and New York that make it illegal to spread “misinformation” or disparage union membership. They claim these laws protect unions from “impersonation,” and that we at the Freedom Foundation were pretending to be union employees and going to members’ homes to convince them to leave.

Since 2018, the Freedom Foundation has helped more than 300,000 public employees leave their unions — the largest decline in union membership in U.S. history. Those workers earning $60-70,000 a year are now keeping $1,100 in their own pockets instead of funding the radical unions.

Abolishing government unions isn’t anti-worker or anti-assembly. Employees can still form clubs, hold meetings, or discuss workplace issues. The problem is the legal monopoly that forces government to bargain with one union, lets it strike and shut down services, and helps create underfunded pensions and dysfunctional agencies.

Unions stack the deck by pushing membership cards with fine print that locks you in for a full year after you sign. A new public employee who signs one during orientation and tries to leave the next day still gets kept in membership, with the union taking around $1,100 of their pay. That’s why getting those cards signed matters so much to them.

Tomorrow I’ll be at the Yale Political Union to debate “Ban Public-Sector Unions.” Looking forward to making the case that government unions put political power ahead of workers, taxpayers, and accountable government. Stay tuned for a link to watch live.

Governor Hochul signed a law with one purpose: to silence us. It’s a hit job written by union bosses who are terrified of what happens when public employees learn they don’t have to pay dues, because once they know, many of them stop paying. That’s why we’re filing suit in federal court today. Albany doesn’t get to make it illegal to tell people the truth.

The Freedom Foundation has filed 15 lawsuits against unions for allegedly signing people up with out their knowledge. Here's what happened.

Today Gov. Hochul signed legislation to silence Freedom Foundation from informing NY public employees of their constitutional rights under Janus v. AFSCME. This isn't about protecting workers — it's about protecting union coffers. My statement:

The Freedom Foundation has helped more than 278,000 public employees across the country leave their union. In New York alone, nearly 7,500 workers have used our materials to resign, including 1,400 this year. So instead of making a better case for why workers should stay, unions are asking Albany to make it illegal to inform them that they can leave — with $1,000 fines per mailing designed to bleed us dry. As the Journal puts it: "No wonder unions are desperate to shut down the Freedom Foundation."

The Wall Street Journal is covering the state-level push to rein in government unions, and the Freedom Foundation is right in the middle of it. Idaho just ended automatic paycheck deductions for union dues. Florida passed a law requiring unions to actually earn majority support to stay certified — after our research showed taxpayers were footing millions for union political advocacy. Gov. @RonDeSantis signed it Friday.

I’m proud to say that Florida just passed the most groundbreaking union reform bill in American history. SB 1296 shatters the old union monopoly model, giving workers REAL freedom from forced dues and coercive union tactics. A huge thank you to every friend and Floridian who fought for this victory, and especially to Governor Ron DeSantis and the Florida Legislature for their bold leadership. Now it’s time for every state in America to follow Florida’s lead!

Even socialist NYC mayor Mamdani can’t satisfy the teachers union. My latest for @dcexaminer.

Oregon banned it. New York copied it word for word. Hawaii named us by name as the target. The coordination isn't subtle. Government unions are trying to outrun the courts before workers learn they can leave. Our 9th Circuit appeal hasn't even been decided yet — and they're already spreading the playbook.
