“Ethiopia must outgrow the 3,000-year civilization myth,” says Dr. Tsegaye Ararssa, Ethiopian international law scholar. Exactly! Ethiopians must outgrow this mythology like children outgrow Santa Claus stories. The Bible’s “Ethiopia” does not automatically mean today’s Ethiopian state, and the Solomonic narrative was used to legitimize imperial rule. Like its neighbors, modern Ethiopia’s borders took shape during the Scramble for Africa. It is time to abandon false historical grandeur, confront history honestly, and live in peace with Eritrea, Somalia, Sudan, Kenya and Djibouti. Peace begins when mythology gives way to history. #Ethiopia #Eritrea #HornOfAfrica #HistoryMatters #PeaceAndCoexistence

It is evident that the Oromo is emulating their former oppressors in adopting the Abyssinian policies of settler colonialism in the Somali region. I'm afraid that this would be a conflict that neither the Oromos, despite their use of the state nor the Somalis would benefit!
Dear Honorable @FarahMaalimM I have been concerned by some of your recent media remarks regarding the Gari-Borana conflict in Moyale. I worry that the framing, however well-intentioned, could inadvertently heighten tensions rather than contribute to resolving them. This is not an ethnic-level Oromo-Somali conflict, but rather a recurring dispute between two clans with close kinship ties, a shared language, and a common territory. Such disputes have persisted intermittently for decades and are sometimes exacerbated by cross-border contraband traders and unscrupulous security operatives. I therefore believe it is important to approach the situation with caution and avoid framing a localized conflict in ways that could turn it into a broader ethnic or national confrontation. Sadly, this is not the first time you have made inflammatory remarks of this nature. A few years ago, when tensions arose between Somalia and Ethiopia, you delivered an incendiary speech directed at the Oromo, which was followed by reports of harassment and assaults against Oromo refugees in towns across Somalia. Such incidents underscore the potential consequences of rhetoric that risks inflaming ethnic tensions. Brother Farah, I know you personally, and our relationship goes beyond politics. We have shared both good and difficult times. I have had the pleasure of hosting you in my home in Addis Ababa, and you have graciously welcomed me into yours, where I enjoyed a wonderful meal with your family. You were also among the first people to reach out and offer help when I recently faced a dangerous situation. I recall these moments because I know you as a fundamentally good-hearted and caring person, and I write to you in that same spirit of friendship and mutual respect. As an elder statesman, you are someone whom I and many other younger politicians have looked to for advice, wisdom, and guidance on important national and regional issues. Precisely because I hold you in such high regard, I hope you will understand my concern. Your words carry weight, and with that comes a responsibility to promote restraint, understanding, and peaceful coexistence, especially when tensions are high. Brother, I say this with genuine respect and affection. Please continue to be the voice of wisdom and guidance that we have come to expect from you. Best regards, Your younger brother, Jawar Mohammed

Moyale today is a cross-border twin town straddling a historic frontier. During the pre-colonial era (prior to the imposition of arbitrary imperial Abyssinian and colonial European boundaries), Moyale was a commercial hub for caravans transporting commodities across East Africa.
Upon establishing a colonial post near Fort Harrington (named in honour of British colonial envoy), the British colonialists negotiated the jurisdiction and status of Moyale with Sultan Gababa Mahad (the father of the celebrated Sultan Hassan Gababa) of the Garre Somali in 1902.

In Moyale of the occupied Ogaden, thousands of Somalis were displaced & the death toll continues to rise while the colonial boys in Jigjiga continue to sing about "unprecedented peace" & "development!" Three towns, Jamuk Malka-guba, & Baladul-amin have been torched.

It is amazing how energetic he is at in writing to, in his words, "keep Somalia alive!"
A memorable evening at SOAS, celebrating the 80th birthday of the great Somali literary giant, Nuruddin Farah. A master storyteller whose words transcend borders, challenge injustice, and preserve the soul and identity of a people. An honour to celebrate eight decades of brilliance, courage, and literary excellence with one of Africa’s greatest writers. Happy 80th birthday, Nuruddin Farah! 🎉📚#SOAS #NuurdinFarah #Somalia #Kenya

In "Security Misunderstood," Hussein writes "Somalia’s misfortune has not been a shortage of fighters." The predicament is the absence of a "stable institutional compass able to direct fighters." This direction, he argues, is the "function of government" not its "substitutes!"
The wait is over. My second book, Security Misunderstood: Statecraft, Survival and the Somali Crisis, is now available on Amazon in paperback and Kindle editions. I’ve shared what early readers think. Now I look forward to hearing from you. #SecurityMisunderstood

This reminds me of the proverb in Achebe's "Things Fall Apart," that "the lizard that jumped from the high Iroko tree to the ground said he would praise himself if no one else did!" Congratulations!!
I extend my sincere appreciation to Rt. Hon. Sir Lindsay Hoyle MP, Speaker of the UK House of Commons, for his warm congratulatory message on my election as Speaker of the House of the People of the Federal Parliament of Somalia. I deeply value the friendship and parliamentary cooperation between Somalia and the United Kingdom.

Tragedy is not in the making in Ethiopia. It is as old as Abyssinia, older than what became Ethiopia in the aftermath of the World War II.
The reality of the situation - Eritrea allegedly calls for full war mobilisation in preparation for what to come. A tragedy in the making for the people of both Eritrea and Ethiopia.

..to add on that, the intention is not to praise Jigjiga, but to belittle Asmara. It's another way saying, "Asmara is worse even than one of the worst towns in Ethiopia".
What is positive in this statement is that @AbiyAhmedAli acknowledges that Jigjiga is in a "worse condition." The most "developed" city in Ogaden, has neither running water nor reliable electricity despite the hullabaloo of "development" in the last 8 yrs.

Jigjiga is better than Asmara #Eritrea In an interview, the Prime Minister of Ethiopia stated that Asmara, the capital of Eritrea, is currently in a worse state than the city of Jigjiga. Abiy Ahmed said, "Before independence—back when Eritrea was part of Ethiopia—it had over 300 factories, and its cities were very beautiful. Today, however, they resemble mere villages; if you look at Asmara, it is in a worse condition than Jigjiga

"The way I look at it, the principles outlined in the Pretoria Agreement are still the principles my government urgently wants to support. Those principles include democracy in Tigray!" If there is no democracy in Ethiopia, how can it be in Tigray? @USEmbassyAddis
Ambassador Massinga sat down with The Reporter to discuss the ongoing situation in northern Ethiopia. He underscored that now is the time for Tigray to move ahead with the principles of the Pretoria agreement, including democracy, return of IDPs, restoration of administration, DDR, and humanitarian access. The Ambassador reiterated the United States’ commitment to lasting peace and stability in Ethiopia, the bedrock for economic development and which allows all people to forge their own destinies. The Time for Petty Political Ambitions is Over A few days ago, the discredited man in Villa Somalia declared his suicidal mission. His obliviousness to repeat history is crystal clear to any rational person, Somali or otherwise. His decision mimics the nihilism from Villa Somalia in 1990. If this is unchecked, his megalomania will permanently foreclose the future of not only many Somali generations, but the very prospect of the Somalia we all hope for and dream about. There is only one sure way to blunt his sadistic ambition. That is, the entire political opposition in Mogadishu and the provinces MUST realize that their individualistic and divisive ambition is what emboldens the chap in Villa Somalia. If the opposition truly cares about the fate of our people, then they must abandon their self-indulgent ambitions. It is high time that a single political coalition was formed whose sole purpose is to save the country from the impending calamity. The way to do it is to form one shared political coalition, based on consensus, and jointly owned agenda. Such a civic union must craft a common political plan for the next four years with clear accountable mandates and division of responsibilities. It is time to save our people’s destiny rather than nurse petty political ambitions

Looks like colonialism 2.0 to me. What the Abessinians and the Europeans did not achieve in the late 19th century - to cut out a further part of the Somali territories (in the northeast) - is now done by Somalis themselves, right? Instead of seeking to establish translocal ties and strengthen the control over Somali resources (the coast, the land, trade, natural resources offshore), Somalis fancy self-division?! Who will profit? Likely not structurally disenfranchised and military weak Somali fiefdoms like Somaliland, Puntland, South West State etc. Rather, established hegemons like Ethiopia and powerful oil-rich monarchies like UAE (and others) which all are in bed with the USA and Israel will eat the biggest piece of the cake. Some crumbs will be swallowed by the hungry Somali elites. The majority of ordinary Somalis will remain poor and vulberable. Sorry for this pessimistic scenario. Before you continue self-dividing, reflect on what the colonial partition 150 years ago has kicked off: wars, wars and more wars including resource drain and refugees. There must be an alternative. Why not work on a serious Confederatio Somaliae?

"Of countries," says a Somali poet, "calamity has representatives!" With no doubt, Adan Madobe is one of the representatives of Somalia's political calamity! Now, he is neither a speaker of the defunct "parliament" nor is he the "president" of Southwest. He remains a calamity

You seem to be the proverbial hyena that has lost both the bones & the skin in search of a meat to eat! You have lost both political legitimacy & Southwest in search for a "meat" to eat! You're brief political lacks luster! Good luck!
Tonight, I convened a high-level consultative meeting with Sheikh Aden Mohamed Nur (Aden Madobe), leader of South West State and members of Somalia’s arms of government to discuss the evolving political and security situation in South West State. The alleged collaboration between political actors and Al-Shabaab marks a deeply concerning development that poses a serious threat to Somalia’s security and stability. We call on the Federal Government to investigate how Al-Shabaab militants have established a presence in areas previously secured by peacekeeping forces and to ensure accountability. We also demand clarification regarding an individual designated by the Somali Government as an Al-Shabaab operative continues to reside openly at known locations in Kenya.

Kenya's president campaigned on "the platform" of affordable housing. He has done pretty well as he seeks second mandate. On the contrary, @HassanSMohamud of Somalia campaigned on "the platform" of peace but he created more choes as he illegally seeks another mandate!
We have also incorporated art into the Affordable Housing Programme, engaging local artists, including painters, to beautify the buildings, creating jobs and supporting the creative economy.
