🚨 Web security alert: urgent AdGuard updates released
A major flaw has hit web encryption: Certificate Authority eMudhra (emSign) generated private keys for eight intermediate certificates with weak randomness. In plain English, keys that should be practically unbreakable were so trivial that attackers could easily recover them to forge certificates and impersonate websites.
Major browser makers — Google (Chrome), Apple (Safari), Microsoft (Edge), and Mozilla (Firefox) — moved swiftly to distrust and block these compromised certificates.
What did AdGuard do?
We have already rolled out urgent updates across our apps, adding the affected eMudhra certificates to our blacklist.
Updated versions:
🧷 AdGuard for Windows: v8.0.3
🧷 AdGuard for Android: v4.15.1
🧷 AdGuard for Mac: v2.20.2
🧷 AdGuard for Linux: v1.5
What does this mean for your browsing?
HTTPS filtering will not work on domains using these certificates — such connections will be validated by the browser itself. This ensures our filtering won't mask any security warnings, though you might see ads on these sites.
💡 Action items for you:
⚠️ Update AdGuard to the latest build
🔍 Make sure you are using a secure, fully updated browser that has already revoked these certificates
Safe choices include:
— Chrome, Edge, Opera, Brave, Vivaldi (revoked via Google CRLSet)
— Firefox (revoked via Mozilla OneCRL)
Update and stay safe! 🚀
Ever switched off your ad blocker to check why a website isn’t working? Then hours pass, and you’re still browsing unprotected, simply because you forgot to turn it back on.
AdGuard for Android v4.15 fixes this with Pause protection. Set a timer for 30 seconds, 2 minutes, or 5 minutes, and when it runs out, AdGuard switches protection back on by itself. You don't even need to open the app.
Small update, but it saves you from leaving your phone exposed by accident.
🥷 AdGuard VPN v2.17 for iOS and Android: one update for two platforms
AdGuard VPN v2.17 is here — this time as a joint release for iOS and Android. Starting with this release, we'll keep updates for both platforms in sync to bring you key features and improvements faster.
📱 Take a shortcut (iOS)
You start the day with AdGuard VPN on. Then you need it off for a few minutes to check your bank account, so you open the app, tap Disconnect, open the banking app, close the banking app, open the AdGuard VPN app again, and tap Connect. Sure, that's easy enough to do once, but what if you do the same thing five times a day?
Shortcuts on iOS can make your life easier — you can connect or disconnect in one tap from your Home Screen, or set up an automation for a specific app.
To add a Connect, Disconnect, or Toggle VPN shortcut to your Home Screen, open the AdGuard VPN app and go to Settings → Shortcuts → Add Shortcuts to the Home Screen. You'll find quick installation instructions there. You can also add your shortcuts as a widget on the Home Screen, add a control to the Control Center, or set up automations to turn AdGuard VPN on for a specific app or Wi-Fi network.
🗣 Hey Siri, connect to AdGuard VPN
Sometimes even tapping the screen can feel like too much. Use a Siri voice command of your choosing to turn AdGuard VPN on and off whenever you want. Open the AdGuard VPN app and go to Settings → Shortcuts → Set up Siri phrases. Record separate phrases for connecting and disconnecting, and AdGuard VPN will follow your command.
🎁 Catch every discount (Android)
This one is for Android users. If you're waiting for the right moment to buy a VPN license, tracking discounts just got easier. When a promotion is active, it appears on the purchase screen in the app. There's no need to check our website or wait for an email to find out whether a special offer is available.
🌐 Change the script
You can now add domains written in non-Latin scripts, like *.рф for Russia and *.中国 for China. Just go to Exclusions → Add website and enter the domain you need.

💚 AdGuard for Mac v2.20: Full compatibility with macOS 27 — and more
If you use Mac but prefer Chrome, Edge, or Gecko-based browsers over Safari, this update is for you.
To install and verify AdGuard Browser Assistant in third-party browsers, the app needs access to Files and Folders. In macOS 27, however, Apple restricted access to those browser folders.
Previously, without necessary permissions, AdGuard simply displayed a Not supported status. This made it look like the Assistant wouldn’t work at all, even though all it took was turning on a single permission in the settings.
In v2.20, we’ve completely reworked this workflow. No more guesswork: the app now explains exactly what’s missing and takes you straight to the relevant system settings in just one click.
We’ve also added new browsers to the default filtering list, updated the filtering engines, and fixed several bugs. Read all the details in our blog: adguard.com/en/blog/adguard-…

💚 AdGuard Browser Extension MV3 comes to Microsoft Edge
Microsoft Edge is phasing out Manifest V2 extensions, and AdGuard was on the list. We're not going anywhere, though. Our Manifest V3 version is now live in Edge Add-ons, and it replaces the old MV2 build.
Quick note: if you search for AdGuard in Edge Add-ons and don't find us, that's a technical issue on Microsoft's side, and we expect it to be resolved soon. In the meantime, grab the extension from this direct link, it works as intended: microsoftedge.microsoft.com/…
What changes under MV3? With MV2, the extension saw every network request in real time and decided what to block. Now the browser gets a prebuilt ruleset and applies it itself. That shift has a price: rule counts are limited, some filtering techniques can't be reproduced exactly, and most filter updates have to ship with the extension, so some improvements reach you later than before. However, for most users, everyday filtering stays the same: we've already done a lot of work, and will continue to work hard, to keep the AdGuard MV3 extension as capable as its MV2 version was.
⚙️ If you use custom filters or user rules, there's one setting to flip after installing: open edge://extensions, click Details, and turn on Allow User Scripts. Without it, the extension can't apply your custom rules.
Want to stay on MV2? Options are limited, most browsers are heading the same way. Firefox still supports MV2 extensions. Or you can skip browser policy changes entirely with AdGuard Ad Blocker for Windows, Mac, and Android, which block ads across your whole device, plus add phishing and malware protection and much more.
🏠 AdGuard Home v1.0 beta: The ultimate network shield is back in action
Imagine your smart TV is silently tracking what you watch, your mobile games are chatting with data brokers behind your back, and your smart fridge is acting way too curious. For years, AdGuard Home has been the ultimate, free, open-source shield protecting your entire home network from this exact chaos.
But let’s be real: lately, that shield has been a bit too quiet, stuck in a long cycle of routine maintenance and minor patches.
That ends today. We are breaking the pattern and officially launching the AdGuard Home v1.0 beta, shifting the project into high gear with active development, massive performance boosts, and a fresh new look.
Here is what makes this major leap forward so exciting:
• A refreshed, yet familiar UI
We completely redesigned the interface to look clean and modern. We kept the core layout familiar so you won’t get lost, but added a fully responsive mobile UI so you can manage your network on the go
• Lighter and faster
The entire frontend has been rebuilt from scratch to consume significantly less memory. AdGuard Home now runs flawlessly even on low-power devices like a Raspberry Pi
• Easier setup & better control
Enjoy a seamless installation wizard, a cleaner query log with expanded request data, and new automated update intervals for your filters
Since this is a massive milestone with a brand-new versioning scheme, we need your help testing it across different environments. Ready to give the beta a spin, find update instructions, or see what’s coming next? All the details about the new version are waiting for you in our blog. You can also download the beta right now to try it all for yourself. Give it a spin and let us know what you think!

There's finally a holiday for self-hosters!
The Self-Hosting Day 2026 promo is live, running September 25 through October 25, and AdGuard is one of the partners bringing prizes. Over on Reddit, the r/minilab community is celebrating people who run their own corner of the internet, so we came with something worth entering for.
What we're giving away:
5 lifetime AdGuard Ad Blocker Family licenses for the community story awards, plus 35 annual Ad Blocker Personal licenses, 35 annual AdGuard VPN subscriptions, and 25 annual AdGuard DNS Personal licenses in the lucky draw.
If you run a homelab, AdGuard Home is probably already on one of your boxes. It filters ads, trackers, and malicious domains for every device on your network, straight from your router or server. No per-device apps, no per-device settings. One install, and the whole house is clean.
To enter, share your setup, the apps you run, or your story in the comments of the Self-Hosting Day post on r/minilab before October 25. Winners are announced October 30.

☁️ AdGuard DNS v2.24: Flexible Parental сontrol pauses & major Enterprise upgrades
AdGuard DNS v2.24 is here, and it has something for everyone. We’ve taught Parental control to keep up with your real everyday routine, and rolled out two major features for our Enterprise partners.
Here’s what’s new:
☁️ Up to five pauses a day in Parental control
Until now, the Pause schedule allowed only one interval per day. But real-world routines are never that rigid:
• A kid might need free access for an hour before school and another hour in the evening to unwind.
• Or maybe you use Parental control to stay off distracting sites during work hours, but still want a quick 15-minute coffee break in the morning and a proper breather over lunch.
Starting with v2.24, you can set up to five pauses per day. Even better, intervals can now seamlessly cross midnight (for example, setting a break from 10:00 PM on Monday to 7:00 AM on Tuesday).
☁️ New tools for Enterprise clients
For businesses managing corporate networks or offering white-label DNS services, v2.24 brings two major additions: Query log streaming and a dedicated Account IP for custom domains.
Head over to your dashboard, try out the new schedule, and check out our blog post for all the details and setup guides: adguard-dns.io/en/blog/adgua…
Open HBO Max, settle in for a movie, and there it is: a casino ad: A woman can can't afford baby formula, she's told to start playing online slots, and she conveniently wins the money she needs. That's the entire plot. She gambles her way out of poverty, and HBO Max decided this was the ad to show paying subscribers, in nearly every break.
The actors look generated, and the scripts repeat. The names stay the same: Chumba Casino, Lavish Luck, Jackpot Go, Gleaming Slots. One subscriber said Gleaming Slots was nine out of every ten ads they saw. Another got the same Chumba ad four or five times in a row, and a commenter called the experience a legally recognized form of torture. A viewer who struggles with gambling addiction said these are worse than the sports betting ads. One guy can't even escape them, his carrier plan can't be upgraded, so the paid solution isn't an option for everyone.
One user who contacted support got a single reply: your complaint will be taken into consideration. Meanwhile, ad time went from four minutes per hour to six, a 50% increase, and the old promise to never interrupt HBO shows is gone. The cheaper plan is a dumping ground, and the official fix is to pay more.
Tubi viewers get one or two of these in every break. Discovery+, Hulu, Paramount+, Peacock, Sling, same complaints. Ampere Analysis, as reported by Business Insider, shows US streaming ad loads grew 18% between January and August.
We make an ad blocker, so you'd expect us to say "install AdGuard and you'll never see them again." Honest answer: sometimes. In a desktop browser you have a real shot. Inside apps and on TVs, much less. DNS can cut a separate ad domain, but when the ad comes from the same server as the show, blocking it blocks the show too. One Redditor claimed to have mostly cleaned up Apple TV with a custom blocklist and network logs, which suggests some ads are delivered separately, but there's no universal fix.
The saddest part is that somebody at HBO Max watched that baby formula ad and approved it. Kids will see these too, through a parent's profile, right around the time the new Harry Potter series arrives at Christmas.
Can’t find AdGuard AdBlocker in the Edge Add-ons search? Here’s what’s happening
Microsoft has begun phasing out Manifest V2, the extension platform currently used by our Edge version. As this transition gets underway, AdGuard AdBlocker has stopped appearing in Edge Add-ons search results.
The extension has not been removed. You can still install the official Edge version using this direct link:
microsoftedge.microsoft.com/…
Meanwhile, we’re finalizing the rollout of our Manifest V3 version for Edge. We’ll share another update once it has been published and fully tested.
Sorry for the confusion — and thank you to everyone who flagged the issue.
We have long criticized what has somehow become the new normal: TVs acting as literal spies in our living rooms
The latest @GamersNexus investigation shows exactly what high-end brands like LG do behind the screen
Spoiler: "optional" tracking is a trap
LG says interest-based ads and tracking are optional and off by default. On paper, simple. On the TV? The interface highlights "Select All" for 10 different agreements. The distinction is there, technically, but LG's interface just makes it very easy to miss
If you actually try to say "no", navigating these agreements takes 2,705 button presses. You also have to read close to 50,000 words of legalese — about 3 to 4 hours of reading. Dark patterns turn choice into surrender. Calling that "informed consent" is generous
And if you think a firmware update helps, think again. An older LG TV added a "Limit Ad Tracking" setting via an update. It appeared switched OFF by default — meaning tracking was not limited, even though the owner had accepted no new terms
