Stepping out as a director now is teaching me something…
The biggest lie by actors in our industry is that talent excuses lack of character.
It doesn’t.
I’ve watched narcissism, ego, manipulation, sociopathy and self-worship become so common that crews and the industry as a whole mistake them for leadership and even genius. They aren’t.
The best artists I’ve encountered over decades in this business had humility, discipline, curiosity, and respect for others.
Watching Daniel Day-Lewis today reminded me of that. Yeah. Fucking Daniel. 🤯
There are countless people who want to be famous. Far fewer who want to be great. And fewer still who want to be good human beings while pursuing greatness.
The future of this industry doesn’t need more celebrities.
It needs more people who care about the work, and who care about people more than they care about themselves.
That’s an example worth following and the only kind of actors I am working with.

Big difference…
One actor plagiarizing someone rhymes & calling it a freestyle. Or memorizing & performing a “freestyle” on the radio, or another actor hopping on a track to promote a ping pong movie.
It’s weird. Actors pretending to be rappers. But this is THE exception.
Tom Hardy’s been rapping since he was born. Now he dropped a whole album, trading actual bars with actual legends.
That’s the difference between performance and craft. Between respect & theft.

One of the particularly maddening things about AI is that it made people who have no experience, no talent, no expertise instantly overnight believe that they have even more experience, talent & knowledge than the people who actually have all the experience, talent & knowledge.
Your artistic heroes are Narcissists selling you authenticity.

Remember when I said it’s all money laundering? When I said when studios and trades praise or condemn a film as a hit or a loss that both those statements are equally full of shit?
Remember you said I was crazy?

Everything you watch, everything you hear is the same melody, same propaganda remixed. Music is no different than film. Same memorable, one liners, same special effects, same shots, same color schemes, same score soundtrack and beat drops.. Escapism is entertaining you to death and you don’t even know it.
Enjoy avengers Doomsday.

My conclusion after three writing projects this year…
AI has made lazy writers confident, and passable writers lazy. It downgraded the writing process.
It also made screenplay notes worse.
On all three, I had assistants, readers, and junior executives never engage with a script and use AI to pretend as if they do.
They upload it, paste the coverage into an email, send back notes that sound intelligent until you realize they do not have the slightest fucking clue what the story was about. One phone call confirms it.
The conversation, curiosity, and humanity disappear. But they love the jack off word salad that makes them look intelligent.
I also worked with writers whose scenes (even the damn notes on my pages) were AI and not inspired by it. Not developed with it and generated by it. (SAME PAY RATE AS ME BTW.)
Co-writing is wrestling with ideas. Testing assumptions. Asking questions neither person has the answer to. It's about two people trying to understand something about the human experience.
Handing that responsibility to a machine because you're "10xing your shit" isn’t efficiency. It’s fucking fraud. Here’s the irony, dumbasses…
I’ve spent countless hours working with AI this year. But not once have I asked it to replace my thinking.
The best conversations I’ve had this year about story, character, structure, and theme come from an actual process of challenging, refining, and discovering ideas together as people.
If AI ever replaces your curiosity, empathy, or responsibility as a storyteller, then you’ve stopped writing. You’re just a prompting hack.

You know what years of working around celebrities taught me?
First as a twenty-something bodyguard…Then later as a grunt hauling paintings around the Wizard World Comic Con circuit...
The majority of people I’d admired my entire life were incredible performers. Not just on camera.
On stage during fan panels they’d talk about their wives, kids, children, faith, Jesus. They’d get standing ovations for good ol family values.
Then they’d step out to hotel suites with escorts and enough blow and booze to forget their families they got choked up praising. But we LOVE that pandering performance shit as a culture, don’t we?
It made me realize that the loudest and most viral sermons are from people trying to outrun their own reflection.
The very few people who genuinely live by a code of ethics don’t advertise it. They just live it and sure as fuck don’t podcast about it.
Anyway. Just me dropping in here to say that the majority of your Hollywood and political heroes are pimps, thieves and worse.
But you know that already, you just don’t care.
I get it.

THIS IS THE ONLY CHOICE. Ryan is an incredible actor, so it would take another to fill his shoes.

“Death by Nostalgia.”
The older I get, the fewer heroes I have.
Not because greatness doesn’t exist but because people are complicated.
Nostalgia edits out the flaws. Reality puts them back in.
Too many of my artistic heroes have never had their chins checked…or never learn the lesson when they do.
Hollywood remakes what already worked. Music chases old hits. We chase the magic of old relationships.
Entire industries are more comfortable recycling the past than taking artistic risks in the present to have faith in the future.
I’d rather spend my life creating something that doesn’t exist yet than chasing something that already had its moment.
That’s a big part of why I chose to build my next chapter somewhere new.
Brilliant work, my friend, @thecollecteur

This is great. Nick understands. Charlie Rose is a cackling gnat.

🔥Faith based writers/creatives!🔥
Last 2 projects, I stepped out to work with you…
…And you are killing me.
Here are some questions for your sanctimonious selves, that I already know your answers to…
The story of…Job?
“Well, we don’t want him to lose his children. Thats too dark.
Joseph?
“Maybe his brothers didn’t debate murdering him before selling him into slavery. Hey, Let’s keep it fun like the technicolor dreamcoat musical!”
Peter?
“He can’t deny Christ. We need the audience rooting for him.”
David?
“We don’t want our hero ordering a man to his death so he can bang the man’s wife.”
The Bible is not a collection of morally polished role models. It is a collection of liars, adulterers, murderers, cowards, doubters, traitors, addicts, thieves, prostitutes, and broken men and women who encounter God.
But you creators want redemption without sin. Resurrection, but you’re uncomfortable with crucifixion.
You want grace without cost.
The ending and glory without earning it. All of your art SCREAMS this entitlement that flies in the face of the book on which you base your beliefs.
And that is why so much faith-based art feels hollow, and lacks a basic understanding of storytelling.
Not because it lacks faith. Because it lacks courage. YOUR COURAGE.
The Bible is one of the most violent, heartbreaking, scandalous, books. A book where heroes fail, saints doubt, kings murder, disciples betray.
And somehow, through all of that, God remains. That’s the story and should be reflected in your “non biblical storytelling.”
Not the sanitized, focus-group-tested, pastor, priest, clergy approved homogenized bullshit clean flix version.
Stories where nobody is offended, nobody struggles, sins, curses doubts, suffers or bleeds. Where everything is pastel colored, strawberry shortcake in a pantsuit, rainbow shitbert.
Most faith-based films don’t fail because they’re too religious. Or because Hollywood hates Christians.
They fail because YOU do not respect nor serve the story. Let alone the story of the Bible itself.
You are all afraid of the darkness that makes the light visible.
If you can’t show me why someone needs grace, don’t be surprised when I don’t give two shits when your protagonist finds it. Biblical or not.
