Ironically, in Lithuania (and I'm sure many other eastern bloc countries) it's in large part bc of the Soviet Union that there is no existing socialist organizing tradition. In Soviet times, communist organizing meant institutional state politics, led by career politicians.

You cannot justify the decline in revolutionary consciousness that occurred in the USSR. People went from actively trying to make a new society to passively submitting to the state and trying to individually survive. A population culled and traumatized into learned helplessness.
