SFI Central Executive Committee has written a letter to the Union Minister of Education, Shri @JoshiPralhad , regarding the death of Sahil Wakode and the ongoing crisis in IIT Bombay. In the last 13 months, 4 student suicides have taken place. A misleading statement by the administration, character assassination of Sahil, leaking of CCTV footage, a compromised enquiry committee, and brutal detention of protesting students and even Sahil's parents — all show the complete failure of the administration. SFI has demanded immediate action on the charter of demands put forward by the students. The administration has chosen repression over accountability. We demand justice.

Condemn the racial harassment of a young man from Tripura, End racism against Northeastern communities. Students’ Federation of India strongly condemns the racial abuse and humiliation of a young man from Tripura that took place recently in Delhi and calls for an end to the continuing pattern of racism, hatred and isolation of people and communities from Northeastern India. In a recent video circulated on social media platforms a young man from Tripura was allegedly harassed through racial remarks and physical abuse by a content creator named Amir Shokeen. Shokeen was seen engaging in verbal abuse using racial vocabularies, mocking the young man in front of a group of men who responds by laughing along. The man was seen answering he was from Tripura, while Shokeen frequently asked him which country he belonged to and was later seen to be physically harassed through the video. Shokeen was arrested and was taken to a one-day judicial custody. However, the issue has broader implication that reveals the systemic intolerance, marginalisation and othering of Northeastern identities that are increasing throughout the country. All the citizens of this country have the right to live with dignity and equality as guaranteed by the constitution of India. People from Northeastern states living across the country are subjected to multiple forms of abuse, discriminations and attacks on a daily basis. Recently, Chongtham Vikram Singh, a Manipuri musician was beaten to death in the national capital outside his home. Racial and ethnic slur, followed by violent attack by a mob claimed the life of Anjel Chakma, a young student in Uttarakhand last year. Even children as young as toddlers are subjected to various subtle and direct forms of abuses, humiliation and mockery in terms of their identity and ethnicity across India. This exposes a dangerous reality the people of northeastern states of India are forced to endure every day in their struggle to situate themselves within the irrationally assumed ideal Indian identity. SFI demands strict punishments to Amir Shokeen for this outrageous act of racism and humiliation. Anyone engaging in similar acts must be identified, confronted and brought before the law. Every citizen in India must have the right and entitlement to live their life with dignity and respect. The racial discrimination and abuse against Northeastern communities and people must be brought to an end. We appeal everyone to uphold the constitutional values and work proactively to foster the values of equality and fraternity in our society.

Jamia administration with the help of guards and Delhi police is trying to remove the peacefully protesting students from the campus using brutal force. Students have been on hunger strike and sit in for more than 10 days now in the campus demanding reinstating of Jamia Millia Islamia Students Union and to conduct elections immediately. Today, the RSS backed administration shamelessly tried to remove the students from the campus while negotiation talks were ongoing. Such violence and intimidation tactics won't stop the students from demanding for campus democracy. The fight will go on.

We condemns the state sponsored repression on the anti-mining activists in Odisha. Odisha is witnessing an invasion on the land and rights of Adivasi and Dalit population at Southern Odisha. On October 16 2026, Dr. Randall Sequeira and Laxman Naik, a doctor who has served the Adivasi communities in Kalahandi and Rayagada for years, and a prominent Dalit leader respectively, were arrested over unreasonable allegations. The activists were arrested in a series of arrest and jailing of hundreds of people who were opposing the illegal mining projects in Sijimali and Kutrumali Hills, while resisting the state repression on the movement. The detention raised serious concerns of the violation of basic human rights and the state government’s commitment towards the corporate interests over the constitutional rights of its citizens. The illegal bauxite mining in the Sijimali Hills is reportedly associated wit Vedanta and that of Kutrumali Hills is linked to Adani Group. These hills are the primary home, livelihood and source of cultural identities of several communities. The ruthless pattern of selling of the forests and its resources has become a common crisis across the nation unfolds the current Union government’s prioritisation of corporate interests. The double-engine governments in different states including Odisha are actively engaged in facilitating corporate plunder and exploitation, affecting the marginalised population on a large scale. Solidarity with the fight of Adivasi and Dalit communities in Odisha to protect their Jal-Jungle-Jameen and salute their unbeatable spirit in resisting the state repression.

It's been 21 years since Jamia Students' Union elections have been held.We demand that the students' union be reinstated immediately. No action should be taken against any student in this struggle, and all previous charges and targeting of politically active students must stop. We extended solidarity to the Jamia students who have been on hunger strike for the past 9 days. Among them is SFI former President and Secretary Comrade Sanam Husain, a PhD scholar at Jamia who has faced political targeting by the administration, sitting here indefinitely demanding the reinstatement of the Students' Union in Jamia campus.

Rise in Rage. Today, IIT students who have been peacefully protesting against the institutional murder of Sahil Wakode were brutally detained by Mumbai Police twice from inside their campus. The protesting students have been sitting on a hunger strike and were on a sit in for the past 30 days. The students have been demanding systemic change and accountability. However, the administration allowed for Mumbai police to come in and assault and detain the students. Students were choked, hit and scratched, and most of them have been injured. Who allowed the police to enter a university campus and detain students? The IIT administration has shown its true colours yet again and has shown that they don't care about student voices and students' lives. The brutality unleashed on students will not be forgotten. In solidarity with the protesting students of IIT Bombay.

Amit Shah’s goons in the Delhi Police seized our flag of Independence, Democracy and Socialism — but Simran seized the rank insignia of that police goon. We will not be silenced, Mr. Shah ji. Our legacy is not Savarkar’s, it is Bhagat Singh’s. This is a fearless fight!

We Strongly condemns the detention of SFI Gujarat State Secretary, Satyesha Leauva by the police ahead of the October 10 protest in New Delhi against Vote Chori. Earlier, SFI district convenor, Arif was also arrested in Saharanpur by the Uttar Pradesh police similarly. The detention of a student leader to stop from participating in a democratic protest is unjust and illegal. The use of police force and arbitrary detention to prevent students and young people from raising their voices against issues affecting the democratic process is a serious attack on democratic rights. Such attempts by the BJP-RSS to intimidate and frighten students will not succeed. The democratic spirit of students cannot be suppressed through threats, detention or police action. Students from across the country will come out in large numbers for the October 10 protest in New Delhi against Vote Chori.

A group of policemen carrying lathis arrived at HKS Surjeet Bhawan, New Delhi, where the SFI Central Executive Committee office is located, searching for SFI activists. The police also tried to collect details of SFI activists coming to Delhi to participate in the protest. SFI will not back down in the face of such intimidation tactics by the BJP-RSS using the police. SFI will participate in large numbers in the 10th October protest against Vote Chori. Delhi Police, are you trying to scare us or silence us? Do you want to see how many of us will come? @AmitShah , we will be in thousands😎 Let's wait and watch. Don't panic.

SFI Saharanpur District Convenor got illegally detained by UP Police from his home and is kept in custody in a private location. The Uttar Pradesh Police threatening through phone and is illegally entering the homes of SFI and other activists to detain them ahead of the 10th October protest against Vote Chori. The UP Police should refrain from such illegal and undemocratic actions. In an undemocratic move, the Uttar Pradesh Police has launched widespread raids to detain SFI and other activists from their homes. Since last night, the police have been visiting the homes of activists associated with SFI and other democratic organisations, detaining them and intimidating their families in an attempt to prevent them from travelling to Delhi for the 10th October protest against Vote Chori. In addition, several SFI activists have been receiving repeated phone calls seeking their personal information, including SFI UP state secretary, Abdul Wahab. The police are asking for details such as home addresses, fathers’ names and other personal particulars. Daud Rao, a leader of the All India Kisan Sabha, has also been detained by the police from his home. The Constitution of India guarantees citizens the right to peacefully express their views and participate in democratic protests. Detaining activists from their homes, pressuring their families and collecting personal information to prevent them from participating in a protest raises serious concerns about violations of democratic rights. This pattern of surveillance and detention is undemocratic and lacks legal justification. SFI reminds the UP Police and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath that such intimidation tactics will not protect the alleged Vote Chori nexus involving the RSS, BJP and Gyanesh. SFI will march in large numbers in New Delhi on 10 October against Vote Chori. SFI demands the Uttar Pradesh Police to immediately release all detained activists and cease all actions aimed at preventing students and activists from democratic organisations from participating in the 10th October protest. @SFI_CEC @SauravDassss @SrijanForYou @AshutoshRanka @abhijeet_dipke @aishe_ghosh @aisa_official_ @AISFofficial
