Hi @RobertKennedyJr : I am a Professor at Harvard & AUB, and an Arab surgeon-scientist. I produce science. Not enough for Nobel, but hey, I am trying. Coffee on me if you want to meet one day. #ArabScientist
HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. falsely claimed while campaigning this week that Arabs "don’t produce science" or "win the Nobel Prize." Here are some of the Arab scientists and scholars who have won the Nobel Prize and other accolades in their field. trib.al/j7Wnuc2

Remember that our surgical ancestors didn't have to operate on people that are as old and complex as now, on anyone that required 'critical care' afterward (those patients just died), or on patients with BMI > 40. Also: *much* more extremity work, and less on major organs.
Are surgeons technically less skilled than their trainers? From the 100th society of British neurological surgeons meeting this month. Also, have “principles” (decision making) stayed the same?

In January 1887 two dogs, known to history only as “a small young dog” and “a medium-sized dog”, gave their lives in William Halsted’s simple experiment that would teach generations of surgeons that bowel anastomoses needed to include the submucosal layer or they would leak. đŸ«ĄđŸ§

At cardiology’s request, the R4 and I put one of these in overnight, and at signout you’d have thought we discovered Bigfoot or something. Are trauma/SCC fellows placing any Swan-Ganz catheters in 2026? I can never figure out if these are supposed to be going away or not. đŸ§đŸ€·â€â™‚ïž

This is such a cool intervention.
Imagine the surgeon doing liposuction, shaking the fat to break it down, and injecting it via an endoscope to close a fistula. This works, and the concept is known as autologous nano-fat transplantation. This case presented by Dr Rushil Solanki at #UEGWeek shows how this is used to close a refractory fistula in a 24 year old lady with Crohn’s disease. By injecting adipose-derived stromal cells, we can now promote tissue regeneration rather than simply closing defects. Say hello to the era of regenerative endoscopy 👏🌟 #ESGEatUEGWeek

Ok, but in my defense, I *did* also pick up the books on the kids’ school reading list.🧐

The academic equivalent of weekend house chores is answering emails, working on pending manuscripts, addressing reviewers’ comments, working on pending proposals, and rereading for the tenth time that one paragraph you’re still trying to make sense of. And if bandwidth allows, choose which part of the house you’re cleaning today.

All "gut" sutures are going away. Because apparently one farmer in Europe that raises the sheep that meet standards is retiring. Such an interesting story! One more chapter filed in the history of sutures.

Just when the USMLE loses its Jehovah's Witness transfusion ethics question, they gain a botched lethal injection resuscitation ethics question.
Christa Pike, who survived Tennessee's attempt to execute her via lethal injection, is intubated, on a ventilator, and remains unconscious in a Nashville-area hospital, her attorneys said in a court filing. cnn.it/4hJprTt

đŸ§”OK, I'm doing a talk next week to a group that won't have any idea why I'm there, so I'm going to repost some of my older đŸ§” This one is on the 'figure-of eight' and also the 'pursestring' sutures. We'll go over what they're for and some technical pointers and pitfalls.
