My excellent friend @spaceJamieJ discovered that lots of Uranus's mysterious behaviour that we've talked about for decades, based on Voyager 2s flyby, happened during really extreme solar wind conditions. It's out today here: nature.com/articles/s41550-0… . May be some news coverage.

I visited the Stefànik Observatory in Prague and found this display. The image in the top box is the first image of Jupiter taken by XMM-Newton. The planet's northern and southern X-ray aurorae are clearly shown in orange. My PhD supervisor was the one who produced that image 🥹

What a week in Berlin for #EPSC2024! I gave a solicited talk about Uranus, caught up with old friends, watched a planetarium show and even gave a live TV interview for BBC News about the Polaris Dawn spacewalk! Thanks to @einionyn and @MSSL_Planetary for the first 3 photos.

There’s no doubt that Chandra has revolutionised our understanding of the planets, dwarf planets, moons and comets in our Solar System. It’s not just for far-away astronomy! Chandra is also essential for planetary and Solar System science.

Chandra has checked out countless comets. Like Mars, they have X-ray haloes and the shape of the haloes can tell us about the solar wind during the observation and if the comet’s atmosphere has more gas (like Comet ISON) or dust (comet PanSTARRS) in them, as found by Brad Snios.

Chandra is still producing great results and helping us learn more about the universe around us. We don’t have any other telescope like it. Let’s #SaveChandra savechandra.org/
