The Gospel is Good NEWS, not good advice. It doesn't tell you what you're supposed to do but what God has already done in Christ to make all things new, including us. It announces the total forgiveness of the ungodly & the reconciliation of rebels to the God they despise.

"There is no surer mark of backsliding and falling off in grace than an increasing disposition to find fault, pick holes and see weak points in others. Would anyone know if he is growing in grace? Then let him look within for increasing charity." ~ J C Ryle, Holiness

An important listen for any Christian leader or leader in the making. I strongly believe God, in his good and gracious intentions toward us and in response to our celebrity culture, is bringing us low. I am deeply under the conviction that we can either go low or be brought low.

Relationships are costly. Whatever it will cost you to be with God is nothing compared to what it cost Him to be with you.

The more the Church tries to make Sunday morning like the culture the more like the culture the Church becomes the rest of the week. Worship is a Kingdom Come moment, the descent of the dove & ascension of worshippers. Are we being conformed to the age or transformed by grace?

37 years ago, a delivery room doctor held my armless, lifeless body and asked my dad, "Do you want us to let him go?"
My dad's bold reply - "Do whatever it takes to bring him back.
37 years later, this armless life is preaching Christ across the country - all b/c of a bold dad.

If we canonize personal & cultural preferences we create a context in which any move away from these is viewed as heresy, as though a move away from culture is a move away from the Gospel. We are often blind to our cultural idols, sanctifying them rather than repudiating them.

When a friend of mine was asked, “What kind of church do you go too?”, he replied, “The loving & merciful kind.”
Let’s be that church. The one with Gospel truth about Jesus but also the Gospel culture of Jesus.

I get so little of the Gospel. I am so thankful the Gospel gets all of me. I know so little of Jesus and love him far less than I should. How amazing that Jesus knows me perfectly and loves me completely. I will never ever get over these astonishing realities.
