2000 Great Songs #1461: California Demise 3. Lovely, catchy baroque pop from the Olivia Tremor Control, the psychedelic swirls given some Beatlesque melodic touches. jitterywhiteguymusic.com/202…
NEW post: Portishead ... “have a huge range of influences and through their technical skill, like mad scientists they chemically combine these elements into rich, dense songs.”

2000 Great Songs #1398: By The Time My Head Gets To Phoenix. Mary Lou Lord's lovely cover introduced me to this jangly late 90s folk-rock gem by Peter Bruntnell, a song that demands to be thrown on all your mixtapes. jitterywhiteguymusic.com/202…

2000 Great Songs #1389: That Tone Of Voice. @AmyRigby with another incisive no-good-cheatin'-man country song (sung from his perspective), surprisingly inserted over a savage romp that invokes the Modern Lovers & Velvets. jitterywhiteguymusic.com/202…

What's the best new band of the past decade? I'd definitely put The Beths at or near the top. In case you missed it, yesterday I picked their 10 best songs for Toppermost (@AgeingRaver). More here: jitterywhiteguymusic.com/202…
NEW post: The 'Expert In A Dying Field' title track is downright remarkable - the Beths slow things down a bit, gentler mid-tempo pop that gives Stokes’ thoughtful lyrics more room to shine …
