The world we live in is more affected than ever before by environmental damage, shifting geopolitics, disruptive technologies, and extreme urbanisation. That is the reality facing youth globally, and it is making them agitated about the world and their future. This makes countries even more interdependent than ever before in finding solutions for future generations.
On 23 October 2026, we sat down at Ahmedabad University with Scotlandโs First Minister, @JohnSwinney, and university leaders from Scotland and Gujarat. The question we asked together: how can universities work collectively for a cause bigger than themselves?
We believe the way forward is collaborative global education with strong humanistic foundations. Education shapes the values that hold people together, and it heals a fragmented world through cooperation and learning. India and Scotland, working together, share a common purpose: preparing young people for a shared future, with the skills and values to build it.
At Ahmedabad University, our teaching is interdisciplinary because the problems worth solving rarely fit within a single discipline. We are advancing our research and education in areas of Climate, Cancer Biology, Advanced Manufacturing, Indian Philosophy and Languages, Urbanisation, and Fintech. These areas will shape the future of how the world lives, works, and learns.
Thank you to the @BritishCouncil for bringing the Scottish Government, the Government of Gujarat's Higher Education Department, and public and private universities of Gujarat together in Ahmedabad.

In chess, success relies on strategic thinking, sound judgement, and adaptability. Competing allows students to apply these critical skills well outside the classroom setting.
The womenโs chess team at Ahmedabad University has won gold at the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) West Zone Inter-University Womenโs Chess Championship 2026โ27, becoming the first university womenโs team from Gujarat to win gold in this category.
The win qualified the team, Falak Joni Naik, Integrated MS Class of 2031; Kritee Nilesh Shah, BTech Class of 2028; Yashvi Vimal Marvaniya, BTech Class of 2030; Vaibhavi Ranade, BTech Class of 2030, for the All-India Inter-University Championship, with further pathways towards the Khelo India University Games and selection for the FISU World University Games.
Ahmedabad University congratulates the team and wishes them the best for the competitions ahead.

Water cannot be understood through a single lens. It connects science and technology to access, behaviour and justice, and links engineering to cities, agriculture, transport and energy. At Ahmedabad University, this thinking begins early. Professor Pankaj Chandra, Vice Chancellor, pointed to the Water Studio in the Foundation Programme, where students first encounter water not just as a subject, but as a lens for exploring complex issues across disciplines.
That spirit shaped Aqualogues 2026 โ Water in Education. Co-hosted by Ahmedabad University and WforW Foundation, the event brought together academics, practitioners, artists and students to explore how we learn about, through and with water.
Aqualogues 2026 re-examined societyโs relationship with water by bridging community practice and academic learning. Keynote perspectives from Ramon Magsaysay Awardee and Stockholm Water Prize Laureate Dr Rajendra Singh (Tarun Bharat Sangh) and Mittal Patel (Vicharta Samuday Samarthan Manch) emphasised sustainable development, local knowledge, and the civic duty of education.
Through documentary dialogues with Mallika Sarabhai, pedagogical plenaries, practitioner sessions, and hands-on project studios, students translated real-world water challenges into collaborative, actionable research. Aqualogues 2026 brought together different ways of thinking about water and its place in education, highlighting how knowledge can shape the choices we make and the futures we build.
When Maurizio, a summer exchange student from Italyโs University of Bergamo, arrived at Ahmedabad University, he entered a whole new world. Embracing the unfamiliar environment, he turned it into a chance to gain fresh insights into both his studies and day-to-day living.
Inside the classroom, Maurizio encountered an alternative academic style, highlighted by direct, one-on-one sessions with professors to analyse research papers. Meanwhile, his daily routine beyond academics grew to include sports and connecting with new people.
For Maurizio, the experience has been about more than studying in a different country. It has been about learning to adapt to a new context and embracing the differences that come with it.

At Ahmedabad Universityโs Bagchi School of Public Health, food and nutrition are part of both campus life and the classroom. Our cafeteria follows @ICMRDELHI guidelines, and our courses cover nutrition, obesity, food security, food safety, and the commercial determinants of health.
Together with the Consumer Education and Research Centre (CERC), we hosted Shri @Tukaram_IndIAS , IAS, Commissioner, FDA Maharashtra, who spoke on food safety, the regulatory systems behind it, and the importance of protecting public health.
This is the kind of work Bagchi School of Public Health stands for: public health grounded in community partnerships, including with SEWA, and applied to real-world challenges.
What we eat is a public health question. We're glad to keep asking it.

What drove the rise of empires in India's heartland?
The answer lies partly in the relationship between the Ganga's river systems, climate zones and patterns of trade.
The Ganga River and Mughal India (@CambridgeUP), Murari Jha new book, examines how the interaction between arid and humid regions shaped political power and regional growth, from early Indian empires to the East India Company.
The book reflects the interdisciplinary approach Jha (Assistant Professor, Humanities and Languages at the School of Arts and Sciences at Ahmedabad University) brings to his courses on the Indian Ocean, Empires in India, Foreign Travellers in South Asia, and the Economic and Environmental History of the Silk Road.
Historian Vinita Damodaran (University of Sussex) calls it "a riveting read for all historians of South Asia" that "will set new standards for environmental history." Michael Fisher (Oberlin College) describes it as "a major advance in our understanding" of the Ganges watershed.

BE THE CHANGE-MAKER.
Leadership is not about the authority you hold. It is about the change you enable.
Public policy and good governance cannot create lasting impact without active public participation.
Good governance is not something done to people. It is built with people.
Public leadership must therefore build trust, create ownership and bring citizens into the process of change.
That is where policy becomes practice, compliance becomes culture and governance becomes public value.
The true measure of leadership is not how much one individual can change, but whether people believe in the change enough to carry it forward.

From an interest in economics to building the confidence and skills to pursue research, Niranjan Jayakumarโs time at Ahmedabad University helped shape the economist he is today.
Part of the 2024โ26 MA Economics cohort, today, he is a Research Associate at Inclusion Economics India Centre. At Ahmedabad University, Niranjanan explored different pathways in economics through coursework, internships, conferences, seminars, and reading groups.
What stayed with him most was the guidance and encouragement from his professors and the network he built along the way. โThat support, along with the network I built here, helped me develop not just the technical skills needed for research, but also the confidence to take on opportunities and challenges I may not have pursued otherwise,โ he said.

What can a robot marathon teach us about the future of robotics? For Professor Sethu Vijayakumar, Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh, Professor of Robotics at the University of Edinburgh, and Founding Director of the Edinburgh Centre for Robotics, robotics competitions are about much more than robots completing difficult tasks.
Such contests push researchers to solve real engineering challenges. They test battery life, materials, robustness, reliability, repeatability, verification, and explainability. Failures are an important part of these challenges. They show researchers what needs to improve. They also help turn ambitious ideas into technologies that can work reliably in the real world.
Professor Vijayakumar believes the future of robotics will depend on this cycle of challenge, failure, learning, and innovation. Robots will become more capable, reliable, and safer to use in complex environments and alongside people.
What does the future of robotics look like? Listen to the complete interview with Professor Sethu Vijayakumar to hear his views on robotics competitions, innovation, grand challenges, and the future of intelligent machines.
