18m+ block, remediated to EWS B1 in 2023. Now internal fire stopping & structural defects found. Never fucking ending, never buy leasehold.

I see @andyburnham‘s ‘legislation before Christmas’ line is now ‘hopefully by the end of the year’. Tired of waiting for meaningful change on a moral issue that impacts so many. If, *if*, anything comes forward, I still won’t hold my breath that it will solve anything. Shambolic.

@mtpennycook you are trying your best not to upset the cartel and end up in court. Well, reality check. Without flats being part of property sales your whole housing strategy falls apart anyway - because the public are done with leasehold and want it gone. @HarryScoffin

There will be many more. First it was cladding, then internal fire safety defects, now structural issues. The more you look under the bonnet, the more you realise that much of what has been built over the last 30 years simply isn't fit for purpose.

And they wonder why the market collapsed. Cladding Latent defects And, as engineers review their designs against the accepted norm of the last 25 yrs - structural issues: was the design compliant at build. If it was, is that still good enough? I’m in this situation. A shitshow.

The Letby insulin convictions are a legal catastrophe. A standard NHS screening test explicitly stamped "NOT FOR FORENSIC USE" by the lab was passed off to a jury as an infallible blueprint for murder. Hiding that institutional warning subverted the entire trial framework.

Freeholders own just 2.5% of blocks yet claim their human rights are breached if they can’t send leaseholders into bankruptcy over spurious bills. Meanwhile leaseholders can’t sell their own homes. Time for a rebalancing, for change, for fairness @andyburnham @FreeLeasehlders
Lifelong Tory Stephen voted Labour in 2024 for its promise to end leasehold. The Blackpool military veteran “took back control”, cutting service charges 31% with Right to Manage. Will @andyburnham deliver universal RTM in his Bill, defying the vested interests Starmer caved to?

Do we not learn anything? Cutting red tape cost some taxpayers everything and has left millions of others trapped in buildings with ‘defects’ that were swept under the carpet in the name of progress 💚

Cutting red tape costs taxpayers nothing. It’s a common sense solution to get Britain building.

This quote from the Guardian article today sums it up perfectly: “The question for the government is whether the proposed reforms give the owners of the existing 5m leasehold homes a credible route out of their dependency – or just regulate their continued subservience.”
WE DID IT! 🙌 In July 2025, I introduced my Bill calling for a regulator for managing agents. Today, the Government has committed to introducing one. Managing agents found ripping off leaseholders will face losing their licences. A huge win for leaseholders.

5m leaseholders know the answer to that question.

GR reform is 40yrs, deployed as ‘good news’. Meanwhile the BSR fails 2 hold FHldrs to account & proposed regulator will be toothless. Life threatening remediation isn’t happening, lenders r refusing remortgages & LHrs face eviction. Govt actions aren’t remotely ambitious enough.

Before you lock someone up for life for using very specific methods of murder, you need solid proof that those very specific methods were indeed used. Not only is this absent in all the #lucyletby murder convictions, but non-murderous alternatives are far more plausible & likely.

Our remediation in Swansea by Persimmon was due to start November 2025. It's now Spring 2027 but nothing in writing. We're waiting for alarm upgrades and have 24/7 Waking Watch costing 230 leaseholders £110.000 a month. Life is miserable. None of this is our fault.

Agreed, I watch Mornings, but leasehold issues do not get anywhere near enough coverage. The most important thing now, is to question whether the upcoming bill meets manifesto commitments to ‘end’ leasehold and the law commission proposals from 2020. This is currently debatable.
Leaseholds in my view one of those things we don't talk about nearly enough in Westminster "We will introduce a bill before Christmas for long overdue leasehold reform... the days of you being squeezed for every penny are coming to an end"

There is SO much concern on my feed about 'My First Home'...concerns I share from experience of being trapped in Shared Ownership-another government backed scheme to "help" first time buyers & billed as "affordable".

This is not the way to improve the property market. If you want smaller deposit mortgages we have them already, if you want properties sold then work on getting mortgage rates cheaper, remove leasehold issues, and build a wider variety of properties.
If you don't have help from the bank of Mum and Dad, this is for you: This government is introducing the Your First Home scheme to help more young people buy their first home with a deposit of just 2.5%. That means less to save upfront, and lower monthly costs once you’ve got the keys. And this help is coming soon, with pre-registration set to open by the end of the year.

No, it’s about taxpayers subsidising developer profits. The same developers who failed to fix thousands of defective buildings they built. And @UKlabour is just throwing another generation under the bus.

Your First Home is about making accessing the first rung of the property ladder that bit easier. It will build on the lessons learnt from previous schemes, while retaining the benefits. 🌹2/3
