🇫🇷The last public guillotine execution was less than 100 years ago and watching it play out is absolutely wild.
France didn't stop dropping the blade in front of live crowds until 1939.
A reproduction from the 1960s shows what that final brutal spectacle looked like right before they shut it down for good.

This woman begins her anecdote by recounting the time she was "assaulted live on Channel 4, on the Big Breakfast Bed" -- WTF?
This allegedly occurred in 1996... on live TV? "She said she was lying on the bed in a full-length evening dress with Harris sitting very close to her"

SpaceX and Tesla have prospered in Texas, because we were not constantly operating under an oppressive and extractive state government.
And I need to be close to the factories, so that I can walk the floor in person. That’s why the first major SpaceX factory was in LA and first major Tesla factory was in SF Bay Area.
As California became increasingly difficult, due to extreme taxes and overregulation, we moved our major domestic expansions and HQ to Texas.

🇵🇱 Poland's president has a 17-point lead over its prime minister in public trust.
A political poll shows 53% of Poles trust President Karol Nawrocki, compared with just 36% for Prime Minister Donald Tusk.
And it gets worse for Tusk. More than half of those surveyed, 51%, say they don't trust him, compared with 34% for Nawrocki.
But the two are also locked in a fight over Poland's top court, where a judge suspended two senior officials and police were brought in to secure the area outside.
Despite Nawrocki's lead in trust, Poles aren't exactly taking his side in that fight.
A separate poll found that 39% think neither side is right, while 29% back Nawrocki and 27% back Tusk's government.
So Nawrocki has a clear lead in public trust, but that hasn't translated into a clear win in the fight over the court.

The video is from a 2019 AOC town hall and depicts a satirical stunt by LaRouche PAC, not a genuine current constituent.

Greg Abbott got 4.65 million votes in 2018 and won. He got 4.4 million in 2022 and won. He got 4.5 million in 2026 and lost by nearly 10 points. Republicans didn't suddenly stop showing up. Democrats turned out in massive numbers. These numbers are fascinating.

Wow. “In 2026, EVERY SINGLE STATEWIDE CANDIDATE obtained more raw votes than Kamala Harris.”
I ran the numbers.
With the exception of Ken Paxton*, Texas Republican midterm statewide candidates slightly outperformed historical expectations.
Democrats UNPRECEDENTEDLY outperformed them.
Prior to 2026, it was rare for a statewide race candidate to outperform the presidential candidate of two years prior.
In 2026, EVERY SINGLE STATEWIDE CANDIDATE obtained more raw votes than Kamala Harris.
This has never happened before.
Methods.
I asked: What average % of the presidential vote does each Texas statewide race candidate get in the midterms, for each party?
Then I compared what each candidate was expected to get, based on historical trends since 1992**, to what they actually got in 2026.
The present figure is after adjusting for which party had a president in office; midterm turnout is on average higher for parties who lost the presidency.
The unadjusted version is in the next, threaded post, for completeness.
* Paxton would have lost even if he had performed at slightly above historical expectation, as other Republican candidates had, as you can see in the right-hand figure.
** Texas and national politics worked very differently before the 1990s, with many conservatives voting Republican for president and Democrat for state office. They are not comparable.
