What they don't forgive are the excuses: "just the weekend," "just four," "just to sleep," "just for the summer."
And keeping quiet out of shame.
What "just" have you told yourself?
- Drinking «only on weekends»
Drinking heavily worsens sperm quality and lowers testosterone. Limiting it to Friday through Sunday doesn't make it harmless.
- Smoking «just four a day»
Tobacco reduces the quantity of sperm and their motility. This happens even with fewer than ten cigarettes a day.
- Weed «to sleep»
Cannabis and cocaine can affect semen quality. What you use to unwind also takes a toll there.
- The cycle «just for summer»
Anabolics can shrink the testicles, reduce sperm count, and cause infertility. Sometimes, permanently.
- Sleeping five hours and bragging about it
In a 2011 study, one week of sleeping less than five hours lowered testosterone in young men by 10 to 15%.
- Keeping quiet about a lump out of embarrassment
Testicular cancer mainly affects men aged 15 to 40, and with treatment, over 95% of cases have a good prognosis. Checking yourself once a month, after a shower, is the way to catch it early.
